I wanna know how ppl receive recommendations in the US. I'm in a private school abroad and i believe its quite different (in terms of teacher niceness and flexibility) from the US.

on the common app, generally how many recs did u receive where the teacher put u on the right-most column "very few in my career," "exceptional in my career" etc etc? Is this common in the US? Is it really of THAT importance if you receive a perfect score from ur teacher evals on ur common app and other apps?

From what I've picked up, many people on these boards have gotten the "one of the top few in my career..." box checked-off. Probably not because they deserved it.

My teachers didn't tick off a single one of those (I got into Chicago EA and Penn ED), because to do so would've been dishonest. I'm a great student, but calling someone one of the top few in 25 years of teaching is really saying something.
