the Gym

how are the gyms at UF? what dorms are close to them? Are they always crowded?

The gyms are great!

Southwest Rec Center is the best one, it's by Lakeside, but it's very easy to get there by bus. There are several on-campus bus routes that go right by there.
It gets pretty crowded around 5 or so, but it's usually not horrible. I usually work out at late night or morning, so it isn't a problem.

Another good one is the Racquet Club, it's off of Stadium Road, it's by the food court near the Murphee dorms. Great place to go in between classes, it's usually not that packed. The gym is on the second floor.

Then there is another one in the O'Connel Center, by the Tolbert/Graham area, it's always packed when I went there freshman year. But I would stick to SW Rec center, it's the biggest gym and also has in-door basketball courts, aerobics center, etc.

whihc gym would be best to go to if your a freshman living at broward, rawkings or jennings?

Depends on what you want to do, do you want to take the bus to SW or walk to racquet club.

I'm living in East right next to the O'Dome. Is the free weight facility in the O'Dome open to all students or just the school's athletes?

are the indoor basketball courts really busy?

which is better SW or raquet club? which is faster to get to?

SW is better, racquet club is faster. Bball courts are busy depending on the time.

omg....the gyms are friggen awesome. THEY HAVE EVERYTHING. EVEN THE AUTHENTIC ASIAN RACQUET BALL PLAYERS!!! Ill fit right in! :D

thanks for all the info i'm really looking forward to it

As I said, SW is better. Racquet club is on campus, so it's a short walk from your dorm. But you should check out SW from time to time, it's a nice gym. Buses go by there all the time, so getting there is not an issue.

Sometimes, but there is always a pickup game going on, so it's pretty easy to join in. I've made so many friends just joining random pick-up games. Most people are nice enough to play a half-court game so that you can use the other half if you and your friends just want to shoot around.

for lifting weights would you say they are both about the same?

No, SW is better. But Racquet will do for most things. Depends on how serious you are about lifting. If you are more advanced, then SW.

when we go to preview will using the gyms be a possibility?

You'll need your student ID card, so it's possible. I never knew anyone who did it. But you can, I guess. You'll have to wait until day 2, which is when you'll get your ID.

You can't go there while at preview per se. You would have to wait until you guys are leaving, so if you're parents are your transportation it depends if they want to wait while you work out.

Well I worked PREVIEW last year (not one of those paid to be happy people) but you will be finish at 5pm on the second day, so if you want to go visit the gym, then that would be perfectly ok.

5 pm? That seems kinda late, I remember I finished around 1 or 2pm and I didn't get an early assignment. Did they add more stuff to Preview?

Yes, there is now a housing presentation from 4-5pm on the second day which you have to attend because after the presentation you get some paper that has your schedule or something that says you stayed till 5pm. If you dont pick that paper, they cancel everything you did at PREVIEW and you have to come back to another one. When I went 3years ago, I left at 10am on the second day.

Yea same here, I think I was one of the last to leave on the second day. He can probably work out in between though, I'm sure you will have plenty of time in between that and the housing presentation.
