I was in the supermarket today and went over to the frozen food aisle to see if there was any ice cream on sale. Before I am admonished, it would be a treat for my kids. ;) I was staring at the Haagen-Daz pint, which was sitting on the shelf near the Ben & Jerry's, and something didn't look right. The Haagen-Daz just looked small. They've reduced the size to 14 oz. Of course, the price has stayed the same. I wonder when this happened-how long we've been snookered.

It doesn’t even matter. I’m hooked. I must have coffee haagen daz. In fact, now that you mention it, I’m going to go out and buy a non-pint pint immediately! :)

Thanks for educating me. I will no longer by Hagen-Daz.

Now I don’t have to feel as guilty when I have it for breakfast cause it isn’t even a whole pint! ;)

Ha - hey, no shame in having a little treat! In fact, part of my fitness plan INCLUDES buying these pint size ice creams. I always allow myself a small treat in the evening (something I really look forward to, won’t give up). By buying one of these pints, I can get a REALLY flavorful ice cream, in a flavor that is mine-all-mine ; and, I have got it down where I can take just enough to savor every bite but make the pint last several nightly snacks.

I’m more of a Ben and Jerry’s person though - though I did try a Dove pint this week that was EXCEPTIONAL! (oops, sorry didn’t mean to turn this into an ice cream thread…)

The huge backet at Costco of their own Kirkland brand taste the best. I buy it for party only, or I would end up not fitting in my clothe very quickly. And vanila is not even my favorite. But this one is Yuummm!

Consider yourself admonished - for not getting some for yourself!

Hey, what happened to our “health and wellness” thread? Are we done with it since January is over? ;)

This has been happening with lots of products over the years. Remember when a jar of tomato sauce was 32 oz.? Now it’s 24 or 26. Toilet paper has gotten much smaller (used to be 4.5 x 4.5 inches). Some cereal boxes, like the small size of Cheerios, are taller but less deep, so they look larger but actually contain less. Breyers ice cream used to come in half-gallons - it’s now 1.5 quarts. And on it goes…

Booklady, maybe the manufacturers are signalling to us that we need to get smaller, too? :)

Heh, very possibly. However, I’d still like my regular size toilet paper back!

I don’t mind something like that if the container is full. Especially if you can actually see the container has shrunk and they aren’t calling it a pint anywhere in the labeling.

What was really unconscionable was when the propane gas guys decided that tanks for the grill didn’t need to be filled all the way so they could keep the price the same. I couldn’t figure out why we were running out of gas more often. What a pain!

The wierdest one for me is the saltine crackers. The sleeve is as long as it has always been, but the sleeve is more and more empty. I think they keep taking like one cracker out a year. :)

Coffee too. Use to get the 1 lb cans, now it is a smaller amount 10.8 oz. Why didn’t they just make it an even 11 oz?

That was me too poetgrl! That was until a few spoonfuls of B&J’s Coffee Heath Bar Crunch. Fell madly in love, divorced HD and ran away with B&J. If you haven’t tried it, I urge you to do so!!

Oh my! I can’t imagine anything better than excellent coffee ice cream, except maybe excellent coffee ice cream with toffee in it. Just had a heath bar two days ago.

I knew this was the wrong thread to read. Just began southbeach a couple of days ago so I’m on the more restrictive no carb first two weeks. Ice cream is my favorite dessert! This is killing me …

zebes, leaving to get a sugar free popsicle … and not happy about it at all. :)

I have a coupon for Starbucks coffee ice cream - I’ve resisted using it for weeks now, but I’m really, really tempted! I actually would probably make it last forever since while I like ice cream I don’t find it at all addictive and am happy to eat it in very small quantities.

As somebody mentioned, this is happening more and more with various products. I’ve run into problems when recipes (mostly from family members and a couple of my PTA or church cookbooks) that call for a small can of Blah Blah or a box of Whatever, cooked according to directions. It presents problems when the can or box sizes change…

A good way to limit intake is mochi ice cream. It’s basically a small taste of ice cream in a mochi. The good thing is that it’s easy to serve & monitor how much you eat. It comes in a variety of flavors for the ice cream as well as the mochi covering.

Also like the mini Haagen Dazs ice cream bars (that have also shrunken greatly, so you can eat with less guilt).
