The Hartt School vs Pace University (BFA Acting Programs)

Hello all,

I am a Freshman BFA Acting major at Pace. To be honest, I was just looking up my program after my indescribable first semester and found this. I know the thread is old, and I know very little about Hartt’s program, but I’d just like to update the world on our program.

This year marks the beginning of a brand new, rebuilt BFA Acting program. It incorporates many more major classes and got rid of some academic classes. The “new, younger guy” that was mentioned in an earlier message is quite literally the most brilliant human being I’ve ever had the pleasure of interacting with. He is extremely approachable, his teaching style is fantastic, and he is beyond knowledgable in our field. He is also a working actor. Our Vocal Production professor is a well-known working opera singer in New York, and our Movement teacher is the Assistant Movement Choreographer/Instructor for Warhorse at Lincoln Center. It is needless to say that our instructors are top-tier. We also don’t just study one studio of acting like how many schools will teach, but we get a well-rounded education from Stanislavsky to Meisner to Strassberg, among others.

The BFA Acting class of 2016 is comprised of 30 of the most talented, passionate, inspiring, and supportive individuals that I have ever met and worked with. I have made some of the best friends that I have ever had in these last few months. Their talent, will to give everything everyday, and individuality is a pleasure to be able to be a part of. We were chosen out of some 1000+ applicants, giving the department itself an acceptance rate of 3% or less. For this coming year, the department has instituted a pre-screening process due to the rapid interest in the program, and they are expecting 1500+ applicants this year, but intend on keeping the class sizes the same.

The Performing Arts Department just got a seven-story building specifically for the performing arts. The renovations are just about finished, and we are to start next semester fully moved into that space. The renovations they have done are indescribable: brand new spaces, gorgeous facilities, and state-of-the-art equipment and spaces for us to use for our craft are just a few of the wonderful things this building is bringing to our experience here at Pace.

I am beyond excited for the coming semesters I get to spend in the department with these fantastic professors (who I can also honestly call my friends), my peers, in this new building and, of course, in New York City. I encourage anyone who sees this to apply!!
