It sounds like your kiddo has some terrific talent…but regarding the above…remember that HIS audition has to be not only at the level of his typical performance but it also has to be BETTER than the others who are taking the audition. If there are two openings on his instrument…there could be two other players who are at a higher level…sometimes it’s not what YOU do…it’s what you do in relation to the others who are taking the audition.

Thanks to all. You have confirmed what I have been saying to my husband and son. Depends on what courses are included in that GPA calculation for Hartt and of course, how well he performs compared to others and the number of open positions for that instrument. And the big one I have been saying - if another student with a higher GPA performs equally to you, then the otehr student will most likely earn the slot. No issue with A/A+ in all music, band, jazz, music honors, etc. classes.

Hello music guru’s
I was wondering if anyone could help us with our college list. We have too many to audition for come fall 2010.
My son is a violinist. Wants to major in performance. Very good Scores!

We cannot audition for all of them and trying our best to narrow down the list.
Which ones are going to be the most competive (violin wise)???
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP OR ADVICE I CAN GET ON THIS :0 !!!

oops…I left HARTT off list accidentally

Hartt/ University of Hartford

How is this school with regard to Musical Theatre?

Maybe post in the MT Majors forum?

DS is looking at the Hartt School, thinking he would study in the The Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz. Looking back through this thread I think the last time anyone mentioned jazz it was before they developed the Institute (looking for that info and not finding it, so I could be wrong about the dates).

Anybody have any experience with their jazz program in the last couple of years? We’re starting to think about planning some Spring break visits to the east coast, and we’re wondering if Hartt is worth a stop.

Thanks, violadad. Your search skills are unparalleled.

Does anyone know how competitive it is for a clarinetist to be admitted into the Hartt School? I visited it this past week and it seems like the perfect fit for me, but I’m wondering whether or not I have a chance or being accepted…
