The Harvard Waitlist Waiting Room 2014 Thread

@gcall: I have to read Othello but the premise seems soooooo intriguing. I had to read Twelfth Night for a research paper and I was not impressed.

Taming of the Shrew is one of my favorites, wrote a paper in college on the story within the story of Taming of the Shrew. Read Shakespeare the first time in 4th grade.

omg i take a diagnostic test for stats and come back to 3 pages of blogging 0__0.

random: i loved frankenstein. one of the only books i actually read on my own and liked.

now can we go back to talk about wait list… BTW, can we make any points from the fact that Princeton received 19% more applicant this year while H received only 5% more…comments are welcomed

I am done with all these AP test…good luck to you … go ahead and keep busy rather than the torture of waiting for Crimson report. hahhaha

I feel like chichibi. I leave for a few hours, and there are five new pages of posts.

I love that our thread is en fuego.

My kid had six APs, loves Dumas, and Paradise Lost.

You all sound like wonderful students. I hope everyone on this thread gets into Harvard, dammit!

geoindy; to get back to the numbers, I think the rise and fall in applicants will have no affect at all on the number of waitlistees who are accepted. The colleges use much more sophisticated models than we do (with more actual data to back up their results) and decide how many people to waitlist with a target in mind of how many people to accept off the waitlist.

If anything, the only possible number that could affect acceptances from the waitlist is a change in yield. Although colleges can use regression analysis to predict a change in yield, a drastic change in yield can thankfully take even them by surprise.

Unfortunately this change in yield works both ways. There could, unfortunately, be a higher yield then expected which would cut back on the number of waitlistees accepted.

-Optimism!

Speak only mathematical comforts to us, Qiz!

I don’t know if this was ethical, but I merged the list with people on the other 2010 waitlist thread and put their names in bold. What do you guys think? I only took people who said they were on the waitlist.

Updated with wonderful lurkers. More people should come out and join us! (76 people so far)

Are you saying, qiz, that the bolded people stated in other threads that they are on the Harvard WL? Just clarifying…

If so, it looks like CalPeg’s D is on the list. Check this thread…

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/897128-harvard-waitlist-faq-3.html

HurtLocker: yup, they stated in either the Harvard decision thread, the waitlist FAQ, or the other waitlist thread that they were placed on the waitlist. But until they confirm that they are staying on the waitlist, I think we should leave them in bold. That way we have the core of unbolded people who are definitely in it for the long haul. What do you think?

I think it’s really smart. Information is king.

We should probably add CalPeg’s D to the list in bold. Her D’s GC was contacted by Harvard admissions. A good sign that the waitlist is active.

ok HurtLocker, go for it. I’m signing off but will clean up the list tomorrow!

-Optimism

I just noticed that you already have calpeg on the list. Get some sleep!

Am I the only one who isn’t studying for AP exams this year?

Hello everyone,

I too am a lurker who, not surprisingly, given the thread, was waitlisted by Harvard and am nervously awaiting their final decision. *I thought that perhaps I might be able to join you all in passing the time, as you seem to be a lively and interesting group of people. I am from central Texas, am interested in essentially everything academic that I have been exposed to thus far, and will be attending Washington University in St. Louis in the fall, assuming that I am not accepted off of either of my two waitlists. *Anyways, I have enjoyed following your thread so far, and I look forward to getting to know you better in the days (and hopefully years) to come!
