TX: Texas A&M is well-known, but academically I think it's highly underrated.

TX: Trinity University, it's quality, but I've yet to hear an utter of it on these forums.

Trinty University definitely. On note of Texas A&M, what 40,000 kids in College Station give off as an impression is what the general public take in, but I agree that people should give more attention to the good academics.

Montana: Montana Tech

A great engineering school, expecially if you want to go into mining or petrolium. It even gets students from Japan (my friend's roommate is from Japan)

Washington: Whitman

Although it's well known to all of the right people, not even the average student in Washington has heard of it, and certainly not the average student on the East Coast. It's really a great shcool, though.

Arkansas' hidden gem is Hendrix College.

That's not the one in Butte is it with the 99% acceptance rate?

It is, but check this out http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/directory/brief/drglance_2531_brief.php is 99% selective?

You know, whats better: a school only taking the geniuses and not having much work to do or taking alot of kids and making them genisus?

Sucks for the other 1% o.O

NJ/New Jersey - Drew and Rutgers (though I wouldn't recommend attending Rutgers from OOS)

Texas - Rice. Well, Rice does get a lot of attention I guess. Especially in the state. But in parts of the country far from Texas, no one has even heard of it. Probably due to its small size.

I've heard it called "the best-kept secret in higher education" so I guess it counts.

i agree that Davidson is the hidden gem of NC

Catholic University of America - DC
Goucher College - Maryland
CUNY Hunter & CUNY Baruch- New York, both very good schools but not not taken seriously.

tx:rice, trinity, tamu. what are some good majors that trinity and tamu provide?

I think USNews considers anything less than 100% to be "selective" because it is by definition selecting some over others. They have "more selective" and "very selective" as options, too.

and "most selective"

I'll 3rd Davidson as the hidden gem of NC. Warren Wilson definitely deserves an honorable mention, however.

I think Truman State University is the hidden gem of Missouri. If you're a good student and you live in Missouri, you should at least take a look at Truman.

Agree most selective LAC's are hiiden gems. Holy Cross is more liberal than Boston College. Davidson is another example.
