"The high school years are the best years of your life"

This phrase has been buging me, because college sounds so much more fun. Do you guys agree or disagree with this statement?

If high school were the best years of my life, then I have nothing to look forward to; in other words, I vehemently disagree with that statement.

There is so much more to life than high school and I'm glad I'm out of it and heading off to college.

I really hope this isn't true. If it is, I'm in for a hell of a miserable life.

I think college and a person's twenties are the best years of their life. High school to me is just a time where you are questioning everything and challenging the world around you. I don't know if this is the general sentiment, but I felt like it's a time of mass confusion, often with frustration and general boredom. For me, high school is also a time where I am trying to figure out things about myself and trying to assert my independence, but it is turning out to be a long and difficult process. Of course, there were lots of moments of fun and laughter, but I think college will really be a time of self-discovery and fun.

Overall, high school was like the same day over and over again, with a few breaks in between.

Only one more year to go:) then real freedom begins......

They are your last years with little responsibility. I think that's where people get the idea that they're the "best" from.

well said helix, you def went/are going through high school

i feel so anxious for that freedom..but i only have <30 days :)

Definition of "The high school years are the best years of your life"- you were the jerk/coolest kid/star football player in your hick town high school where high school football is the center of everything. And after you graduated, you worked at the town gas station.

or...

that cop from harold and kumar!

Eclipsed, I envy you and all of my senior friends who are heading off to college.

I remember the last day of this year, I looked at my senior friends expecting to see some tears in their eyes or a look of sadness that they were leaving, but I was definitely mistaken. Not only were they not upset to be leaving, but they stormed out of class in a stampede, slapping each other high-fives and running through the halls screaming like maniacs:D

Enjoy your newfound freedom, and good luck!

Weener has it right. For most of the students here on the forum, the best is yet to come!

oh hell no. how about the worst days of your life? sure, you don't (usually) have to pay for expenses and work a job, but instead you're in the most high pressure most dramatic most dififcult setting in the world: high school. not only are the hours the same as a 9-5, but there is homework in additiojn. i woon't even get into the social situations, dating, college admissions, etc. these are the worst.

high school years are the best years of your life if you haven't gone to college, like many people.

Honestly, that's a sad saying reserved for the unfortunate who don't have college and careers to look forward to. No matter how wonderful high school has been, it's beyond sad to think those will be your best years.

but taking a look at our current ages, there certainly hasn't been enough time that has pased since our high school years to be able to look back and definitively say they weren't the best years of our lives.

funny, cause theres also a saying that "the college years are the best years of your life"

my life after high school can get really ty......but it still cant get *tier than high school.....i will never look back to my high school....and i am 100 percent sure about it....nothing in high school has made me a happy person....it ***in sucked.....

I don't think I've ever heard someone say that, only that college years are.

hm.... I've never heard the college one. Maybe it depends on where you live. Like, where I live, I doubt too many people have gone to college, lol. It's a farming town, so people reminisce more about high school. Sean and funkybunny, you guys probably live in a different environment, so you've heard the college saying more often.

I see now. Say you grew up in the 50's or 60's and in your high school days you were the football jock, had a lot of gfs, really popular, everyone kissed ur ass, didn't have too much of a care... then after HS you go work at your dad's farm and end up getting married, having kids, and working long hours for the rest of your life. In that case, high school are the best days.

But if you're educated, wealthy, white collar, and urban - HS are bad days.

I attended college in the late 60s, and therefore am of a certain age. I believe that people say that the high school years are the best years of your life because the high school years are really when you are coming into your own, experiencing lots of new things, and feeling heady about your future, your freedom, your independence.

But, my own opinion is that very often the high school years are not the best in your life because those are also years of personal doubt and turmoil, testing out relationships, and breaking ties with your family as you move further away from their influence. Teens who believe that the high school years should be the best of their lives often fall into a grave depression, because they feel that if their lives don't measure up they've failed.

So, any years can be the best years of your life if you just accept them for what they are and learn from them. Enjoy the moments, good and bad and see them for what they are...texture in the fabric of your life.

I guess I'm alone on this, but up to this point, right before I enter college, high school was the best 4 years of my life. I loved it, through and through. I learned a lot about myself and about life in general. That said, I'm pretty sure college will one up high school, but everything has been great up to this point.

Exactly. The only people that believe this are people who aren't going to college, and basically will be working the same (usually crappy) job that his/her family has had for years.
