The Hill School

I have recently got my acceptance letters to The Hill, NMH, The Hun, and The Gunnery as a 11th grader and decided that I would want to be a part of Hill next year.

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with the hill and could ease my mind im not going to a school im going to hate and wana kill my self in... :)

hill is great

nice environment
nurturing i 've heard

DID YOU TAKE THE PSAT"S for admissions?
what were your stats?

Were you a student at the hill or a parent or something?

i took the ssats. i got a 78%

You have made a wise choice. Hill has a first rate faculty, a fine Headmaster, a beautiful campus, strong academics and a competitive athletics program. The MAPL is made up of six natural, long term rivals, which leads to many exciting fall weekends. The Hill-Lawrencville rivalry is the fifth oldest in the country. It is a very traditional school but not stodgy. It has a storied history and an incredible roster of alumni, many of whom send their kids and grandkids to the school.

Dont joke about killing yourself--still need to find out about suicide this past fall at Hill

There was a suicide at Hill this past fall term, and like all suicides, it was a tragedy. This guy nerve doctor, however, without any first hand knowledge, keeps implying that it was Hill's fault. Beware of posters who claim to be spreading malicious information as a public service. Who knows why anyone commits suicide, but this young man had apparently had a series of disappointments including a rejection from his first choice college. Hill handled the whole situation with dignity and class. Suicides are unfortunately a part of life and I am really offended that this guy keeps bringing this one up.

Seriously, Nervedoctor, you need to stop bringing up that suicide at The Hill. You have no personal information about the child who committed suicide, you have no idea what triggered it, and to infer that kids should think twice about attending Hill because of the suicide is wrong.

According to the Surgeon General, a youth commits suicide every two hours in the USA. Suicide has increased because of a rise in childhood depression, decreased family stability, and increased access to firearms. Suicide can occur at any school, with kids from all walks of life.

If anything, the suicide at Hill probably had a dramatic effect on the staff and other students and the school is **more **cognizant of suicide risk factors. I am willing to bet Hill’s administration has created some type of intervention awareness program so that a tragedy like this will not happen again.

My daughter is in her third year at Hill and she has loved it. The kids have fun, and my daughter's teachers have all been excellent. This year she has three Ph.D's teaching her AP and Honors classes. She has gotten a wonderful education at Hill.
The kids love the headmaster, David Dougherty, and he and his wife are fine, caring, compassionate people. Pottstown is not great, but the kids can walk in for Pizza or snacks, and the Hill School campus is very pretty.
As a parent, I appreciate the excellent communication Hill maintains with parents.

I have also recently been accepted to The Hill School, and Westtown School.

The only feedback I’ve been hearing from both of these schools is posotive… I’m now wondering what students DON’T like about these schools. Any feedback would be helpful making my decision. Thanks

Congratulations on your acceptance to both schools. I’m a parent, not a student, but I can tell you that on your re-visit day your feelings might clarify. Go to both schools if you can.

My daughter is a 6th former at Hill School and has loved it. She has loved her teachers, she has found they were stimulating and the classes fun and interesting. Hill seems to have a good mixture of fun, athletics and hard work.
I’ve also heard good reports on Westover. See where you feel most at home.

DA, I went to a boarding school during the '60s (not Hill). There were no suicides at my school during my four years there. For what it is worth, those years were probably the best years of my life. Also, I think that many of my school mates enjoyed those years as much as I. That said, when we graduated and went to college in the '60s, times changed, mostly for the worse for both us and the country, I do believe.

in the book This Boy’s Life, the main character goes to the Hill school.

Tobias Wolff (who wrote “This Boy’s Life”) also wrote “Old School”, which is set at a prep school loosely based upon his old boarding school: The Hill School.

Anyone know what Hill’s acceptance rate is?

I believe it is around 38-40% for Hill

I think BSR is out of date though. When I emailed the admissions director, he said 90 out of 500 freshmen get accepted.
