The Hindustani College Admissions Thread #20

Yeah I did, but I asked for full FA so I’m not expecting anything positive.
Didn’t hear anything yet. Was it through UPS?
It’s really great that you got in! Swat is a simply amazing school.

Mine was through Fedex. I think you will have to wait a day or two though since usually it takes a little longer to reach India. I think HK is a stopping point so it might have reached me earlier. I really hope you get in.

Thanks Puttu, it’s sweet of you to say that!
But I’m still expecting the worst, just to be safe.
My Swat interviewer did say that sometimes they take one or two, and sometimes none at all from here anyway.

You didn’t answer my previous question, is it easy to pursue your interest in Karnatak music in HK? Are there professional teachers there? Wow!

oh I forgot! It’s not easy to pursue Carnatic music in HK but not impossible. There are a couple of teachers but not many are professional. I had a good teacher but sadly towards the end of last year she became too busy and started to lose interest. Plus I had 2nd year of IB so I had to quit for a while. There are some more teachers but they’re quite rigid. I love singing though so I sing randomly all the time. So cool that you do so many ECs. You do swimming too! I used to do competitive swimming - now I just sit in the jacuzzi. LOL  I am planning to get back to Carnatic music, swimming and hiking. Also plan to learn some new languages in the break. :D

I think Swat is more generous with intl aid than other schools. Anyway, I think you will have some awesome decisions on 30th because almost all the Ivys are need-blind.

So I again got a rejection today, this time from CMU, not feeling too good about the Ivy,s, my questions

 1. Are there any good schools where they still accept applications for fall 2011 ?
 2. Is it useful to apply for Spring 2012 to the same schools from whom I got rejected for fall 2011 ?

Still have only Purdue ???

Puttu, it’s great to hear that there are teachers for Karnatak music in HK. Are you planning to come back to bangalore this summer?
One of my aunts was in HK for two years. She said it’s a really nice place…except all the thin-as-a-stick ladies there made one of her friends who was a bit on the heavy side feel a bit self conscious. :D

Nanogirl, Purdue is an awesome school and doesn’t get the respect it should in India forum. You should get a pretty good education there which is what matters in the end. The academic rigor there is killer and that makes it sound very enticing to me. (Except I didn’t apply to engg colleges)
There are no good schools that still have admissions going on atm. You could try for Spring entrance though, but do it only after gauging your chances based on the results you have received for Fall 2011 entrance.

hahahaha yes! I sometimes walk into a shop here only to get told that nothing is going to fit me so I might as well stop trying. I somehow don’t think you will have that problem though. Hahaha I am really going to miss this place. I am definitely coming to Blore and hopefully Delhi this summer. It’s going to be fun!

I agree with Pixie Nanogirl. Purdue is an amazing school with a vibrant international community, lots of respect and great academics. I think you need to see how results pan out and later transfer if you are still unhappy after a year but I think by that time you would have fallen in love with whichever school you end up at!

Thank you Pixie and Putturani for the encouraging words.
I am told that the intake is very high at Purdue which makes it appear that it is not of a very high standard ? and the course has a high number of dropouts !!
Any comments ??

@Putturani: CONGRATS ON SWARTHMORE!!! I’m so jealous :stuck_out_tongue: (they rejected me ED) haha anyway, it’s an AMAZING college so you should pretty much take it and run!

Haha, Puttu, I don’t think it should which sounds heavenly to me, because I’m tired of walking into Indian stores and being told that nothing of my size is available.
If you’re doing Delhi, then we should definitely meet up! I’m doing bangalore later too, though.
Are your parents still going to be posted in HK?

Nano: the drop outs are a large number but that’s because many who get in can’t handle the high standard of work.

@Nanogirl
Purdue is very easy to get into, but extremely hard to graduate from. It’s a very prestigious school for engineering, and has a very, very strong reputation in the eyes of the recruiters.

Yes sounds like a plan pixie! Let’s see if I’m doing Delhi, circumstances seemed to have changed so I need to conform. Do you have relatives in Blore? Hahah then you should drop into HK on your way to the US (well you could have if you had applied to any West-coast colleges). You will find racks and racks of clothes. My parents will most likely stay here for another 4 years at least, then I dunno.

Thanks goodwood. Where are you looking at now? Swarthmore is one of my top choices so I am happy I got in.

Btw Nanogirl, I agree with itsmylife and pixie. Purdue is a dream school for many people I know.

Yeah, my maternal aunt lives in Bangalore and I’ve spent many summers there, so I know my way around. Atleast around the place I stay.

Amazing place, with amazing people. Bangloreans are very chilled out people, and very interesting too, without the nose-high-in-the-air attitude of people from my city (although I love delhiites and am probably all of that myself;))
I wish I could. Unfortunately, my mother is not going to give a very positive reply if I tell her I wish to visit a city in another country to shop. I should get some good stuff in the states too I think!

I dunno about dream school, but it is an excellent backup option! :)

Hahaha lol yes that’s true. My parents freaked when I said I wanted to go on a grad trip. But they’re right. It’s an unnecessary expenditure at this point. Purdue is a dream school for a number of my cousins in India, don’t know how representative they are of the population.

so what’s your top choice Putturani? I’m going to UChicago :D.

Okay I just read the old replies and caught up with everything… IM FEELING SOOOOO EXCITED!!! and the best part is I don’t know why :P. I just feel like screaming my lungs out IM GOING TO UCHICAGO WOOOOOO!!! but I don’t want my dog to give me weird stares…

@collegebeckons: Haha you’re the one whose got me all excited with that crazy long post (thanks). Choosing cornell over UChicago? rolls eyes haha just joking, CORNELL+TATA=unbeatable. Also, seriously, after 31st lets all like somehow meet… or atleast forget anonymity… SOME STALKER CREEP cough ani cough already knows who I am :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: I think we should also have somekind of video chat session, theres ToxBox, which is basically multiple people video chatting which we hafta do, it’s alot of fun!

AAaaaaaAAAAaaaa!! I can’t wait for 31st even though I haven’t applied anywhere!!!

Haha yes I’ve heard stereotypes about Delhi-ites but I’ve only met nice people there so far.

YAY for UChicago goodwood!!! Hahaha your dog won’t judge - that’s why it’s called a man’s/woman’s (don’t know what you are) best friend. I was close to applying but I didn’t because I thought it would be too hard. And where did I end up applying and getting into? - Swarthmore :stuck_out_tongue: One of my friends got in to UChicago though, I don’t know if she will get in. I can’t wait for May 18 when exams will be over and I can go to India!

Congrats for Swat, puttu!

Shut up goodwood :stuck_out_tongue: I was insanely curious to know the identity of someone who’s from my city itself!

Anyway, every regular CCer knows that debarghya is THE stalker here :P

Oh god goodwood, thank you for the very appreciative post! I am SOOO glad at least SOMEONE is as wound up as me!! And, you did not apply to any ivys??? WHY??? And goodwood, CORNELL+TATA is… I mean, out of this world. And I got WAITLISTED at chicago. Not many are as lucky as you!! :). I am just waiting for Harvard now… AAAARRRGGGHHH… I DON’T JUST WANT H, I NEED H.

Ok, can we at least start revealing identitties??? I am NAMRATA from Jaipur which I have already written somewhere above… what about you?

And, nanogirl, purdue is an awesome school. One of my seniors went there and he is extremely happy and satisfied with the college. You needn’t worry. :)

^Wow. raises eyebrows

Anyway, goodwood is heading to uchicago which is atm No. 1 for undergrad education. Why would he apply to the Ivies if he got in EA to UofC?
