Oh god, I SO wanted to write on Find X too but I instead wrote on Honesty is the best policy… I guess it must have been good-ish. :)

Nah, mylife, I just randomly picked up the worst looking M&B off the shelf, paid for it while blushing furiously, and came home and read it. I have sworn off M&Bs now, btw. :D

And, mylife, greedy sometimes is good. :). Scratch that. I am loving it right now and I don’t really care for my morals for the time being! :)

I made my own prompt for UChicago

I quoted this:
*
Ryan Bingham: [on getting through airport security] Never get behind old people. Their bodies are littered with hidden metal and they never seem to appreciate how little time they have left. Bingo, Asians. They pack light, travel efficiently, and they have a thing for slip on shoes. Gotta love 'em.
Natalie Keener: That’s racist.
Ryan Bingham: I’m like my mother, I stereotype. It’s faster.
— From the movie “Up in the Air”
*
And then put up a question about stereotypes; whether they are useful or not.

I don’t know, collegebeckons. I believe in contentment. That’s just me. :)

And best of luck for H!

Goodwood, call me Namrata. :). I chose the stupid-est name (collegebeckons) ever. Oh well, I never prided myself on my ‘creativity’. :)

I’ll sure remember to come to you when I need a psychiatrist, mylife! LOL! This Indian thread is pure awesome-ness! I’ll find it VERY difficult to wean myself off it after the BIG day!

IML, that’s a really nice essay prompt that you thought up!
I remember only one more essay prompt someone created that I found interesting (;)).
I couldn’t think of one creative enough…my creativity reserves were milked dry by the time jan 1 arrived, which is why ctrl c, ctrl v, became my temporary best friends.

^ interesting you say that. My intended major at UofC is psychology! And yes, CC is addictive. Very much so.

Haha thanks Pixie. Haha it’s okay if you know… how do you know ani though? CC?

Err… What is M & B .?

^Mills and Boon is this brand of books containing very explicit and predictable love stories with the traditionally attractive “tall, dark and handsome” guy and “blonde and blue eyed” woman as the stars.

Goodwood: yes, CC. ;)

I just came to know from a very reliable source in the admissions office @ uchicago itself that FA was the only reason they waitlisted me, and that they have very little money for internationals. :(

I’m taking that to mean that they almost certainly won’t accept me from the waitlist either…

To Aniruddh, who asked somewhere well in the archives of this thread: The only thing lacking in my application that they probably really cared about is my ability to pay. Can’t do anything about that, so oh well.
But to Ani and everyone else who got into CMU, a big fat CONGRATULATIONS! That’s brilliant, and here’s to more decisions to come!
Puttu, CONGRATULATIONS on Swarthmore!!! That is so so amazing, I’m very happy for you!
Collegebeckons, your enthusiasm makes me sound like an insipid old grandmum. So please stop lol.
Pixie, about Chicago, it makes sense. It probably explains our Wellesley decision too. I’m going to email Midd and ask them what the FA situation is like for Internationals on the waiting list. If it’s not too good, I’ll withdraw myself from it. No point staying on if I can’t afford.

^
They’ll tell you what the chicago person told me. Wait for it. Ahem.

Obviously they won’t say, get off, we never wanna see you again! But it obviously means “go soak your head”.

Sigh. Euphemisms. Sometimes you’re glad they exist to cushion the blow, and other times you feel like screaming at them to tell you, ‘You have a snowball’s chance in hell. Tough beans kid.’

Please don’t lose hope on UChicago! They haven’t announced the merit aid yet!

Thanks nemo. Pixie, nemo I think decisions are going to be good for you on March 30 because all those awesome colleges treat internationals as US students in terms of FA. I totally agree that you guys are awesome candidates.

@Collegebeckons - You read M&B! Hahahha I can imagine you blushing away. The writing in those is pretty horendous though. If you want recommendations of better romance novels PM me. Hahaha now my secret is exposed! You guys know what "“intellectual” reading I do now. :P

Btw UChicago essays are AWESOME. I felt like applying just to answer one of their essays. Oh well, if I am jobless over the summer.

They haven’t? I thought they had?
Argh, I’m going mad.
Goodwood, only yesterday I read on the uchicago forum that merit aid for EA applicants is declared with the EA result or in January. Plus there are threads going on discussing what merit aid CCers have gotten. Are you absolutely sure?

^ I know from past experience that EA admits can not give up on merit scholarship up until the 3rd of week of April. CC is a bad source of information on FA.

happily bounces off THCAT

EDIT: Grr, I want my message back! :p

I know that my post count is embarrassingly high, but I GET the 500th post! :D
