The Hindustani College Admissions Thread #20

GASP! et tu perfectpixie? Someone told me the big merit aid is still to come.

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
  :D

yesssssssssss

CONGRATS compscifan! Which school did you get into? Lots of people from my HS are going there.

Viterbi
10 char

^What is that for? Lots of my friends apply to the film school/Anneburg/Marshall so I have little knowledge of the others. Did you get your package through DHL? Did u get a DHL email?

^ Yeah, I got it through DHL …
I got a DHL e-mail when the package departed from LA. And then I got notifications from their tracking website as the package reached checkpoints …

LA -> Cincinnati, OH -> Heathrow, London -> New Delhi -> My city

‘Viterbi School of engineering’ is the name of the college

Cool! So is it safe to assume that if someone hasn’t received an email yet, that they are rejected? Are you planning to go to sunny LA?

Nah. A guy I know got the e-mail yesterday and I’m sure he’ll get in … Let’s see. You still have 2 more days.

LA ? Maybe. I got several choices now (UCLA, UIUC, GTech and others). USC’s *** very *** expensive and the fact I’d pay full tuition might make me turn it down (similar case with UCLA). I’ll evaluate my all my options in April …

Cool. Haha I have a cousin in UIUC too! Yes USC is very expensive. I was hoping for a merit scholarship from them but I didn’t get one with my acceptance letter so I think I won’t be getting one. :(

south California huh?? You know what that means!!

Thanks a lot puttu, and I really appreciate your good faith, but since I only applied to one Ivy, and I have a higher chance of getting hit by a car, I really doubt the likelihood of anything positive unless the Adcoms have a serious lapse of judgment. Still, I’m glad I tried because Yale was one school that I was willing to put all my effort into (at least in terms of essays+interview) and I won’t regret applying for a second.
Pixie’s decisions, on the other hand, are a totally different issue and I am SO pinning all my expectations on her. Jk Pix, you know I would never pressurize you like that (and you wouldn’t care about my pressures as it were), I’m basically channeling all my hopeful energy for her case (and everyone else’s) and not mine.
AH 1 day till the mother of all matches!

Best of luck, nemo! Don’t be too pessimistic. I mean, what’s the point? Be anxious, be eager, be insane. Either ways, rejections always hurt. So what’s the point being all low and un-hopeful(?).

Oh and yeah, THE MATCH! :D

On the issue of the match, I think the chances of Pakistan winning this match are equal to my chances of getting into Harvard (i.e x -> 0 ). :D

Nemo: Did I tell you in recent times how much I love you?
I am channeling all my hopeful energy for your case, and someone else’s too. Somehow, I can never get worked up about my own decisions. I’m crossing my fingers for you @ Yale. That essay is pure fun combined with excellent writing and they better like it!
If Midd, the stingy ol’ grandpa waitlisted you, then Yale w/o the FA excuse… I shall hope. You don’t. This makes for a good arrangement because it has ready made cushions prepared for the (god forbid) fall .

IML: I dunno, I allowed myself to like Wellesley, and the rejection hurt. I didn’t allow myself to like Yale, and the SCEA deferral didn’t bother me more than a bit! Like someone said, experiences mold one’s opinion!! ;)

Goodwood, listen to Tippu. He knows more than both of us combined.
I’m only parroting what they’re saying on the UChicago forum here.

Hi guys!! Just maths board left! Yaay! I’m still stuck with Colgate waitlist and Wellesley rejection on the admissions front with Drexel acceptance long long ago(which means nothing, because I’m not even considering attending, no offence to the college and its students). But well, India doesn’t look so bad now. And I can’t help feeling happy about boards (almost) ending. I’m waiting to hear from Amherst, Williams, Swarthmore, Columbia, Cornell. I want to bang my head on a wall for not applying to some less selective and more generous colleges sometimes, but well, no use thinking of that now.

Congratulations on CMU to the boys(and collegebeckons who has Cornell anyway??)! And Puttu, Swarthmore!! Woow!! You must be an awesome student. It’s kind of a dream school for me, but after reading here what Pixie’s interviewer said about its acceptance from India and with my aid situation, not hopeful. :(

I didn’t know it was that bad that people in Dubai would know about it too Karan? :p

Tiyas: The packages for Swat were dispatched on the 24th, but seeing that my Smith package (sent through UPS) was postmarked 21st and reached today (!), I don’t think we should be hearing anything soon…
But then again, I hear they post the waitlists and rejections through regular mail, which means we should assume that we are rejected/wl if there’s no news by the end of this week?
Goodwood, what do you say? Did your rejection from Swat take very long to come? Can one find out on phone?

Pixie, didn’t Swat say something about emails for internationals on the website??

Thanks tiyas and good luck with maths. I wish my boards were getting over but I haven’t even started yet. You know what, sometimes I long to study in India. Really going to miss family when I leave. You should be hearing from Swat soon though. Guys, USC is supposed to have dispatched packages on the 22nd/23rd and someone got their DHL email just yesterday so I wouldn’t assume a rejection. Plus, some people have already gotten rejections and some haven’t yet gotten acceptances so you really can’t be sure of anything. Keep the faith! They need some students from India. Well I really hope they accept some from India because I really want to see some desi people around if I end up going there.LOL

Guess you guys are all excited for Thursday morning? Are you all going to stay up late on Wednesday night? Haha I am not. I am exhausted enough with last week of school preparations. Dressing in fancy dress everyday is a lot harder than it seems!

Puttu, keeping the faith seems difficult considering everything right now. I took the Wellesley rejection rather hard. I feel much better equipped to deal with anything now after the rejection though, so I guess something good comes of everything. But thanks for all the positivity! And good luck with your exams too! Enjoy the last days of school! For me, that was way back in September. School for my state board ends before Durga Puja.
