Hi Ans! Long time no see.

Btw, I wanted to ask you (or bluebox) do phones carried from here work in the US?

For the most part no. US mostly has CDMA phones while in India we use GSM. CDMA are significantly cheaper and more widely used in the states. Just pay some 50 dollars youâll get a (cheap) phone and a monthâs connection from a company like AT&T (or whatever your townspeople recommend) and then regular bills. Funny problem you might run into - you have to sign a contract to get a CDMA cell phone connection, and you canât do that till youâre 18 (unless your parents sign it for you). So ask someone to help you get a phone unless youâre turning 18 before leaving, shouldnât be too hard to get around.

^Aww shucks. Does that rule hold for a pre paid connection too?
This sucks. Not only can I not get a phone connection with relative ease, I canât even open a bank account.
Thanks for the help guitarclassical! :)

^ I heard this about the phone too! And I am terrible at doing practical things by myself.

Tiyas got the TATA scholarship instead! :D

^ This entire CC batch is Just. Awesome!

Random me, nuthinâ interesting to add! :P

umm, in reply to your question, perfectpixie, a quad band phone from india will work in the us. some phone providers like virgin mobile, however, are cdma only and do not have gsm, so you cannot use your phone with them. fortunately, most of the good ones, like att, etc, use gsm a lot and you can use your phone. however, i advise against getting your phone since you can get a good one for like 50-100 bucks with a contract.
and in reply to the second question (pre-paid thingy) i have a prepaid connection and love it. wayy cheaper. you can totally get a pre-paid phone even if you arenât 18 i think, though i might be wrong. cuz i donât remember having to fulfill any criterion anywhere. all you do , (especially for virgin mobile) is go on the website, order a handset. once you get it, go online again and activate the phone using the code on its undercover. then pay for say a month, and start using

^Hey, thanks for the explanation Ans! It was very helpful esp the last part.
The only reason I wanted to carry a phone from here was because one of my relatives wanted to gift me one. Why do I have to get good presents when I canât use them?

^Same here!! My uncle wanted to buy me a really cool phone! Now I canât accept it?? Aww shucks. People keep giving me books as well, and itâs so sad I canât carry them to college. :(

Guys, do we send the original marksheets now or the attested stuff we used when applying ??
