From what I have heard, highly selective colleges (H-Y-P-S-M) expect applicants to have taken the big 3 sciences: physics, chemistry and biology. I've taken physics and chem, but I had a scheduling problem because of EC's and varsity sport, so I didn't AP Biology this year. I opted to take an astronomy class at a local college since I could take it at night. Will this be a problem? Should I address this in my application to explain why I didn't take biology? I would appreciate everyone's opinion.

Yes, I would explain why you didn't take it. My daughter couldn't take physics because of a scheduling conflict. She explained it on her application and she got into one of those highly selective schools and some other very good schools as well.
