Our new shower is finally complete, shower door was installed on Tuesday, and they did a few other things, so finally last night I was able to try it out and it was absolutely the best shower I have ever had in my entire life. After 26 years of showering in a phone booth (or actually more like half a phone booth) we have a beautiful walk-in shower with a bench. The stove top was installed and we passed inspection yesterday. We are just waiting on some touch-up stuff, the metal part of our hood (which had to be custom cut because of the slant of our ceiling) and the new front door wonāt arrive for a couple of weeks. We moved our bed back into the master bedroom last night, but DH didnāt do something right when he put the bed back together, and it creaked LOUDLY every time we made even the slightest move. Hopefully he can figure it out. My plan is to move things back into the house VERY SLOWLY and try to purge. Of course, now that the house is done I realize our furniture needs to go.
Congrats!!! A big shower was a must item when we house hunted. Or a place where one could be installed easily.
The shower sounds wonderful. My favorite part of my day is when I can take my bath. Even after 20 years I still love my bathtub. Thanks to Bunsenburner my tub jets are also super clean.
Looking for some suggestions for my kitchen- house is 20 years old. The kitchen is open and spacious with a huge island and a lot of cabinets. All the cabinet doors are solid wood, no glass uppers. The cabinets are real wood maple with a light stain. Appliances are stainless except refrigerator which is dated in the fact that the doors are cabinet fronted. Iām thinking that if I change out the cabinet knobs the kitchen might look better. The present knobs are ceramic cream round knobs. Island is granite, rest of counters are an off white corian with a liner of granite color that is similar to the island. I figure I need to stick with round since the cabinets have already been drilled with a single hole. I just counted and I have 55 knobs. Would love some suggestions?
Door knobs do make a difference! We replaced our cheapo fake aluminum ones with these inexpensive ones - our visitors commented that the cabinets loooked much better!

Sold in packs of 25 or 50, but I have some leftovers, so if you want them, I can send them your way for you to have 55. Poke around Amazon - there are different packs of knobs for sale.
New profile is the cabinets and you can get a glimpse of the granite color.
@BunsenBurner - how is the quality of those knobs?
I see black in your granite
What about a black square iron knob?
I had no issues threading them onto the existing screws in the doors. They are not super heavy, but not super light either. Amazonians like themā¦ they actually come with 2 sets of screws - long and short, but as I said, the existing screws workers. Oh, just saw the photo - will definitely be an improvement! Canāt go wrong for $45.
You donāt need to stick with round, you can use anything that fits over one bolt. I like BBās knobs too.
When I spruced up my old kitchen, I replaced the knobs and it can be very expensive when you get 40 or more!
I like the idea of black and @BunsenBurner link is also nice and the price is nice. Wayfair has some nice oil rubbed bronze or matte black square knobs which I might order. I have satin nickel knobs on my bathroom cabinets so I moved two of them to the kitchen so I can look at them over several days. I also might just go to Home Depot and buy a pair of black knobs to see how they look.
Great idea! I was too lazy - just bought the Amazon ones and they worked! If I get tired of themā¦ off they go for that price. That is an easy way to spruce up the kitchen.
Home Depot has a 10 value pack of square brushed nickel knobs if you would like to change the look. Round knobs tend to be a pain in the butt since they get loose and have to be tightened up all the time. There are several slightly more expensive knobs that have little grip metal points that keep the knobs from turning loose.
Keep the old screws because sometimes older cabinets have different widths and the packaged new screws are too long or too short.

Years ago, my son wanted a new desk when he was on medical school, but didnāt want to pay a ton. Found one he liked on sale at Office Depot, but hated the hardware as it was traditional and gold. We found great looking black handles with a twist to them that he loved. That desk has moved with him four times, and he has no intention of every getting rid of it! When the thing falls apart, I bet he will keep the handles!
Best part is, the hardware was dirt cheap
The tile work is done in the new shower enclosure, and it looks great! So much better than the yellowish-beige ācultured marbleā plastic stuff that was there before. DH claims to be unimpressed, and only interested in whether the water still reliable comes out of the faucets and disappears down the drain. His contribution to the design planning is to request a replacement exhaust fan, so heāll get that.
We just had our orientation and walk though for our new townhome that we are closing on next week. All when well, with only one question that I am hoping someone here will know the answer to. We were told we needed to seal the grout in our showers/tubs before using them, as well as the tile walk behind the stove. I was a bit taken aback as this is a new build, although basically a spec unit. If the grout needed sealing, why would they not take care of this when they put the tile in? Is this something we must do, or was it just a suggestion? I will find out more tomorrow as I have my home inspection and will take to the sales people and builder if needed; just wanted to have some information under my belt before I raise a stink!!
If this is something we have to take care of ourselves, and will need to use one of the showers on move in day, what product should be use? I have a handyman coming to do some things the day before move in, and I can get him to do this, but donāt know if he will know which product is best.
I am surprised they did not use epoxy groutā¦ Just get something from HD and follow directions. If you use your shower before sealing the grout, no big deal. It can be sealed any time before it is ruined, and that takes a long time. If you can use a spare bottle and a rag, no need to pay $$$ to a handyman.

Here is why you need to seal that grout:
Doesnāt it take about two minutes?
Totally forgot! Congrats on getting close to moving in, @snowball!
My husband wants the handyman to take care of this as he wants it done before the moving truck arrives and he only has closing and moving day off work. Moving the week of the Jewish holidays was not great timing, but gets us into the house and out of the apartment sooner than we thought! The handyman is cheap enough, so if we can be doing something else while he takes car of the sealing, it might make better use of our time.
I am concerned about the clean up of the tile after applying the sealant. I have not researched yet, but looks like you just wipe the tiles with a rag; is the wet or dry? The area that will be time consuming is the master shower floor as they used 2x2 tiles; that is a lot of tiny tiles to clean!!
@BunsenBurner They uncovered my Cambria today and it looks great! Did you know they now make a matte finish also? I still like the gloss finish, but curious what the matte looks like; I may have to check it out as Cambria has a store around the corner from my hairdresser.
