I thought that the parents may have some more info on this. If you know anyone who who got into the University of Arizona's Honors College could you tell me ur stats? Maybe some advice on application techniques or the way they admissions work for the fall 2006 applicants?

Can't help you with U of A but if ASU Honors interests you let me know,D just graduated from the Barrett Honors College there and had a great experience. From what I do know the admit stats are similar at both schools, with maybe more scholarship/merit $$ at ASU and their courtng of OOS/National Merit may be greater.

If you could post some stats that would be great!

My son was a National Merit Semi-Finalist (in Arizona), which made him an automatic Honors College admit at UofA and brought him a large merit scholarship, even though his GPA was not that high (around 3.6).

mind you this was 4 years ago..she just graduated..but she went in as a Merit Finalist with about a 97 unweighted average (our district does numerical out of 100) with a few AP's..not too many...all her EC's were music related or honor society type things..waas a performance major so had to do auditions. She was OOS so was given free tuition plus a stipend..at that time 3,500$now $5,500.It was enough to cover the dorm, and later her share of an off campus apt.The hard part is keeping this one..you must mantain a 3.5 and do 20/hrs of community service a semester.Mostly everyone she knew lost it at one time or another (you can appeal or be put on probation) over the GPA.
Honestly if your a National Merit, its automatic..I think at U of A as well.
Theres lots of other scholarships at ASU through the Honors College, do a search for "Sun Devil scholarships",lots of kids had those. They particularly like volunteerisn/community service/leadership comitments. Are you in state? If so your guidance counselor should be well versed on the Arizona U's opportunities. If you are OOS far away like us, they wont even know where the schools are!LOL

My daughter just left home for UofA. She is in the honors college as a NMS. UofA gives full rides to NMS. But I don't believe you need super high stats to get in the honors college. I'll ask her to find out and get back to you.

I see you are in Alaska.I was startled how any Alaska kids there were in Arizona.I guess it feels exotic to them..but still accessible?

Cathymee

If you are an Alaskan and going oos it really doesn't make a lot of difference if you go to Washington or Arizona. You are pretty much going to have to fly so it is just a difference of a 3 hour flight or a 5 hour flight.

D visited 6 colleges and applied to many more. Of the 6 she visited, she like Arizona best. She started out thinking she wanted a small school but after looking at Arizona decided that the opportunities were greater there. Besides, it has a very good astronomy program.

She visited Whitman, Scripps, Arizona, Texas Christian, University of Florida and Villanova...quite a cross country jaunt...especially coming from and returning to Alaska.

Jvd, Thanks I appreciate you finding out that info for me
