How important is having a 'hook' when applying to Princeton. I mean, princeton gets SO many kids applying with straight A's and insanely high board scores. Does a person who only has solid board scores/grades but a REALLY interesting story/ extracurriculars/ career, have a shot?

Define, interesting..

(Oh god, oh god we're all gonna die?)

well if the person has a career in the recording industry and has had thier original musical optioned for production. Also, worked thier way through high school(partly why grades are a bit lower)

Define "hook."

Adcoms usually use hook to mean that the applicant has some trait that is of benefit to the university. These sort of hooks include athletes, rich kids, famous kids, sons & daughters of rich/famous/politically connected parents, URMs, and last but not least, legacies. The majority of kids admitted to HYPSM have none of these kinds of hooks.

But if by hook you mean that the kids are well-accomplished at their various ECs and show some level of involvement, leadership, or achievement beyond that of many normal, bright high school kids, then yeah, it would be hard to get accepted without this sort of hook.
