Hey everyone, i have heard on many many occasions that experience, when it comes to being admitted at the hotel school, is CRUCIAL and has a HUGE impact on your application. I just wanted to ask about the validity of this statement- is experience something that can honestly tip the scales in your favor? I heard that students with lower scores but with awesome work experience in the hospitality industry will have a much better shot of gaining admission....

I would have to agree with this statement. I applied to the Hotel School ED with extremely low GPA and Test Scores (For Cornell that is). I have an enormous amount of experience, goo letters that indicate my passion for hotels, and, in addition, attended the Hotel School summer program.

There, the admissions committee informed me that when viewing your application they only consider two things:
1. Will this person do well here?
2. Is this person passionate about Hotels/ Hospitality?

To answer your question, the only reason experience is a plus on your application is because it solidifies and provides proof, in your favor, for the scond question.

I hope I answered your question dande. Good Luck!

I am attendind the summer college program this summer as well as working at a renowned inn/restauraunt as an intern. i am also doing an independant study of business administration in hospitality at my school (it is our centennial and i am working with the alumni and business department to help me learn)
