I dream about going to the Hotel School and all of this waiting is killing me. For those of you who know anything about the schools what do you think my chances are? I know they look for certain "fits" for the school. I had an interview and to be honest, I do not think it could have gone any better. It was really a small world experience, my interviewer actually knows my aunt and family, really kicked it off well. I really enjoyed meeting him and talking to him about the school. Probably the highlight of my visit by far.

Letters of Rec. - Excellent. One from business teacher (extremely close..calls me her second son) One from my chinese teacher who said I was the best student she ever had and an additional one from my english teacher who is amazing and knew a lot about my plans.

Essays: 2 awesome essays. The common app one was probably the best essay I've ever written.
The hotel school one was extremely creative and I love it. It is one of a kind and even with the great number that have applied, I doubt anyone ever wrote about what I did. Again, I love the idea...it has a lot of my experience that led to why i want the hotel school and a lot about my dreams/career goals

I would really appreciate it if I could get some hope while I painfully wait for decisions to be mailed out! Thanks!

I think you have an extremely good shot, especially as the interview is important. Good luck!

Scores are low even for hotel and I dont see any legit work experience just some awards which I dont think will hold any weight without actual work experience. Your gardes matter but without that work experience your chances are low.

shoot, I forgot to add. I worked at BK…yeah, yeah lame. However, my interviewer, who is an outstanding professor there, loved that I worked there. Absolutely loved it and went so far as to say that with that experience I would have an edge over most of my classmates. And my SAT II math score was 690, so still a little low.

Food experience is food experience and though its not working at a hotel its certainly gonna be a big help. With decent hours at your job I think you stand an average chance meaning whatever was the admit rate late year.

I actually think your interview puts you at 50% or better.

I’d say you have a good chance. Your application seems very similar to mine at the time, while I worked in a well known restaurant in Boston, the BK lounge is nothing to be ashamed of. Your ec’s show strong leadership skills and diverse interests and if your essay was as good as you claim it is, I’d say your a good match. One of the test questions they like to ask is whether or not you applied to any other hospitality programs, hope you did. Good luck.

wow, thanks guys. I appreciate everyone taking the time to check this out. The more and more I looked into the program, the more I felt like that is what was for me. I’m hoping that comes across in the application as it has in the interview. Again, thanks so much for everyone’s input. Now just have to wait until decisions!

Actually I have another question. It says on the website that decisions start getting mailed out February 15? Does everyone find out at this date or does it depend on the person…and if so what determines it? Thanks!

What determines it is the quality of the applicant. Stronger applicants are notified earlier. I’m not really certain why the Hotel School does this as well as the contract colleges.

I figured. I had just figured they did it because they were looking for the hotel school because they look for certain students and they can tell if each person will or will not fit in. Because of this this they don’t really have to compare among the group as much as say a regular business school (until it gets to towards the end in April). Again, CayugaRed, you’ve been really nice. I appreciate you taking the time to calm my nerves a little while I wait! You’ve been more than helpful.

It’s no longer mid-February. It is now early March when people may FIRST hear (Hotel, CALS, and ILR). It’s a very small percentage of students and in the e-mail I received, the Admissions Director didn’t “go into the specifics.” Most will still hear on April 1st.

IIRC from last year most still received decisions on april 1st even at the rolling colleges

I just talked to the professor and he said that the strongest candidates hear back first so they can make their decision and let the school know so that the “next in line” students can be offered admissions if the best don’t accept the offers. He mentioned nothing about them not doing it so much anymore, so I’m assuming that some may still hear in February. Who knows when it will be, but I guess I like surprises. Thanks again everyone

I got my acceptance letter from the Hotel School on March 17th of last year. My official letter from the University came in April. Hope that helps.

What is the difference between the two letters? You knew in March, so you found out earlier. That is what I’m hoping for, but I guess it depends on the strength of the applicant pool. Thanks for the information!
