The HYPSM+ Chancing Experiment (will chance back!)

As someone who frequents CC, I’ve always been curious about how accurate chance threads can really be for schools with admissions rates like HYPSM (not very, in my opinion, but prove me wrong!). So I’m proposing an experiment/game, where you predict my admissions results. I’ve applied to the following:

-Harvard (Deferred)
-Yale
-Princeton
-Stanford
-MIT
-UPenn (M&T)
-UPenn (SEAS)

I will update when decisions come in. Whoever predicts the most correctly wins…something (give me suggestions aha).

Note: before I continue, I am international (Canadian)

Objective:
SAT I: 2320 (800 M, 800 CR, 720 W)
SAT II (place score in parentheses): Math II (800), Chem (800), Bio M (800)
Unweighted GPA: ~95/100
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): ~10/100, but school doesn’t rank officially
AP (place score in parentheses): Chem (5), Bio (5), Human Geo (5), APES (5), APUSH (4)

Subjective:
Extracurriculars (Grade in parenthesis):
-A somewhat obscure sport (3-12), 20 hours/week, have competed internationally
-A science olympiad (10-12)
-DECA (10-11), Won at ICDC in 11th
-Started HOSA chapter (11-12)
-Math Club co-president (10-12)
-Equity Committee (9-12)

Awards:
-Duke of Edinburgh Gold
-Ranked in top 100 for contests like NACLO, National Biology Competition, various national math competitions

Job/Work Experience:
-Worked as paid research assistant for a month

Volunteer/Community Service:
-600 hours
-Volunteer with disabled people (10-12)
-Summer camp counsellor (10, 12)

Essays: Above average
Teacher Recommendations: Didn’t read, but should be very good (I’ve worked with them outside of class as well)
Counselor Rec: Didn’t read, but knows me VERY well
Additional Rec: from coach, excellent
Interview: Harvard was pretty good, MIT was okay, Princeton and UPenn were very good

Other
Applied for FA
Projected Concentration: Engineering
Country: Canada
School Type: Competitive Private (normally sends ~3 to HYPSM, ~5 to other Ivies)
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: F
Income Bracket: $120 000

I’m just going to predict reject for all. That way, if I do get rejected from all of them, then at least I have the consolation of winning my game. Thanks for reading!

The only question I have is this: How is your course rigor as compared to the offered course rigor at your school?

If it’s the highest possible offered, I’ll predict admit at all the schools on your list except for one/two of HYPSM (don’t ask me which one lol).

I predict that you will get into 2-3 schools on the list. Your application is amazing! Regardless of the results you should be really proud of yourself.
Check out my thread if you get a chance please:

-Harvard (Deferred) reject
-Yale waitlist
-Princeton reject
-Stanford reject
-MIT reject
-UPenn (M&T) reject
-UPenn (SEAS) accept

@Anonymoose3‌ I’m taking all of the APs offered except Lang (scheduling issues). I also took an extra course compared to the standard courseload in junior and senior years. My counsellor checked off “Most Rigorous” I believe.

Thanks for the chance @ptkid16‌! I’ll go check out your thread now

@qpqpqp‌ Interesting! My friend actually had a very similar prediction but with Princeton waitlist.

-Harvard (Deferred)-reject
-Yale-reject
-Princeton-reject
-Stanford-reject
-MIT-accept
-UPenn (SEAS)-Accept
Please chance me !
Good luck, i hope I’m wrong on all but penn!

You have a great resume, but not out of the world, and for international that kills.

For HYPSM, I can’t say you’ll get in or be waitlisted at any specific one, but overall, you might get 1-2 waitlists/acceptances if you’re lucky. Your best bet is to use female in engineering hook at mit and get in. So I’ll predict reject at HYPS and a waitlist at mit.

For penn, M&T is super competitive enough for domestic (harder than hypsm) and usually needs a lot of business ECs (ordinarily only people who’ve founded their own business can get in), and to top it off, you’re international, so almost surely a reject. If you were going to get in, you likely would have got a likely letter by this point.

Penn engineering is hard to decide, I can see anything, but the female in stem might get you in (I’ll predict an acceptance).

I’m a similar applicant (high stat and applied to m&T as well), Chance me back!

@princetonboii‌ Thanks for the chance! Chanced you back

@theanaconda‌ Yeah, I thank my lucky stars that I’m not applying from China or India at least. M&T was kind of a “Why not?” application for me tbh. Thanks for the chance! Chanced you back

Your ECs are solid. The international athlete is quite unique, but everything else seems generic. That being said, I thin that fact you hold (seemingly) high positions in each EC should make you fine. On a side note, I’m just curious what sport you play and if you have any chance of walking on and playing at one of these colleges.

Unfortunately, you’re an international status and you’re asian, both of which are extreme disadvantages. But your objective stats + solid ECs looks good enough to get into one of these.

Harvard- high reach
Yale- high reach (they hate asians, at least from my school)
Princeton- reach
-Stanford- high reach
-MIT- reach
-UPenn (M&T)- accept
-UPenn (SEAS)- low reach

For UPenn M&T, I do not think that you will get into the program because its uber competetive, but its possible to get into only Wharton, and I think they’ll take you with a little luck.

Harvard - Reject
Yale - Reject
Princeton - Reject
Stanford - Reject
MIT - Accept
Penn (SEAS) - Reject

HYPS: Likely rejects and waitlisted, possibly acceptance? I’m not sure about unis use of ethnicity with regards to international students. Stanford are not needs blind for internationals so you will be at a disadvantage there as well.
MIT - Accept
Penn (SEAS) - Reject

@texas1418‌ Thanks for the chance! Yeah, my sport is my main EC. Unfortunately, it is not a college sport though, or I would have considered going the recruitment route.

@Alec43‌ Thanks for the chance! I’ll go chance you back now.

@DanKush‌ Thanks for the chance! Yeah, I actually wavered about applying Stanford for a while because it is need-aware, but decided to anyway since it’s full-need.

Also, I’m not sure how much relevance this has, but I was recently offered an interview with Yale.

Update! I just had my Yale interview today. It was very relaxed and went quite well.

Bump! I’ve decided to check my decisions all at once on March 31st and will definitely update here after that!

HPS: rejected
Y: waitlisted
MIT: accepted
UPenn: accepted
Good Luck!!!

PS Chance me back?

@lovesdogs101‌ Thanks! I think I chanced you yesterday already

@SternBusiness‌ Thanks for the feedback! I’ve chanced you back

@235423‌ Thanks for the chance! I haven’t actually checked Stanford or MIT yet, because I’ve decided to check all of them at once on Ivy Day. I’ll definitely update with my results after that though! I’ve chanced you back
