<p>stern, unless the process has changed, you are mistaken. The I-20 is a school-generated form which must be obtained before applying for the actual visa. My understanding is that even Canadians require an F-1 visa in order to study in the U.S. You are very late in asking this question! My advice is to call NYU ASAP, which is probably Wednesday before the offices reopen, and find out exactly what is needed. The process for visas is very time-consuming and you don't want to leave it any later than you already have.</p>
<p>right. but u may be still fine. when i did mine in June, i got my passport back in three days, but it may be different in canada from tokyo. i second alwayamom in that any intl student will need a F-1 visa.</p>
