The "I Got in without a 3.7+ GPA" club

theres a thread already? i don't seem to find one; just one big one about low GPA.. if you can find it, post it please! thanks

You're not counting the best boarding, private, independent, and public schools, right?

my friend with a 3.2 got into wash u.

Yes. Not personally, but I know many people because my school is very open about colleges and I am very observant over the last three years, and this year's, college acceptances.

GPA/rank is a factor of how hard you work. Not what level of greatness you have accomplished or will accomplish. And I mean this in the most hopefui, optimistic way possible - don't worry about your GPA/class rank, worry about how you are going to convince colleges that you are the type of applicant that they will see once in their lifetime. That being said, try to be in the top 10% if it isn't too much trouble, but if it is, then don't worry about it.

Useful thread. It will be interesting to hear more examples.

I was accepted to Colorado College with a 1780 SAT, 3.5 grade point average, and probably a class rank of forty-something. It was probably my minority status, stellar essays and shining recommendations that allowed me to get in.

I had a graduating class somewhere around 400 people. My school was one of the best public HS's in the state. The only ranking that they did was 1st and 2nd in the class and top 10%. The only girl from my graduating class who attended Harvard was someone I didn't know and who was not in the top 10%. Other than that fact I actually didn't know anything about her, which was kind of strange.

My friend got into Northwestern and Michigan with a 3.6 UW, but rejected from uc davis lol.

even if there wasnt would you still apply?

Yepp. I've gotten into dartmouth and cornell and I'm not in top 10.

3.78 Weighted 7 semesters
3.65 unweighted 7 semesters
3.65 weighted, UC "A-G course" scheme (6 semesters)
2230 SAT, 35 ACT (that helped a bit)
I got in Santa Barbara so far (and Whitworth and University of the Pacific, but really, have any of you heard of those (no offense to other acceptees))

What bugs me is the UCSD method of weighing grades. Apparently they don't even look at the GPA (see the scoresheet, they cap gpas at 4.5 then multiply by 1000), so they wouldn't be able to notice that my school only offers a total of four advanced/honors classes, and if i got straight as it would end up at 4.2ish.

Sigh.

Level 4 (3.2 unweighted), no awards, no AP scores, relatively mediocre SATs...got in to WashU.

Art is such a mealticket.

3.65 UW

Virginia Tech and Loyola Maryland so far...
This thread is making me more optimistic about the other schools I applied to. =)

Level 5 (mid)

American U, New York U, University of Pitt, Ursinus

has anyone gotten into rice university level 3 ( 3.0 G.P.A ) with less than 500 sat scores on writing, reading, and math sections? please answer very important.

^

You're kidding right? a level 3 GPA is bad enough, but <1500/2400 SAT scores too? You're seriously pushing it.

accept NW, rejected UC davis??
wow, pretty unpredictable...i guess this thread is supposed to boost our confidence...

post 175-no...

"has anyone gotten into rice university level 3 ( 3.0 G.P.A ) with less than 500 sat scores on writing, reading, and math sections? please answer very important"
