wow…the least of my intentions was to sound like a pompous prick…but since most of CC is insecure, I am starting to regret posting this thread like LW trojan said.

I think that a rejection is a necessary part of the college application process, so I applied to an Ivy that I’m not getting in for sure.
So far, I’ve been pleasantly surprised.

I congratulate everyone who is a member of this elite club… however, for those of us who HAVE been denied from schools, this does come off a bit arrogant and disrespectful… So, if I were to offer some advice, celebrate your successes, just not in a public forum.

“the least of my intentions was to sound like a pompous prick…but since most of CC is insecure”
Those two thoughts are the opposite of each other.

Thanks but no thanks - someone elses insecurities shouldn’t stop anyone in this forum from celebrating their own victories. Misery does indeed love company.

My next decisions come from Harvard and Yale.

Do I want the worst luck possible? No thanks.

LW Trojan, When I said in a public forum, I meant for all of us to see. I have been accepted to NYU and Carnegie Mellon, so I have nothing to complain about… I just remember that feeling that I got when I opened my first rejection letter from Chapel Hill… I just about died… Those of you who have not felt that can not sympathize with that emotion. I don’t mean to belittle what you have done, I’m only asking that you celebrate with your friends and family, not flaunting you success around with people who you don’t even know.

Congrats to the OP and all the rest who have had such good success with your apps thus far!

I do have a quibble with the OP’s rationale that, “u dont get admitted to college for luck or karma, u get in because you deserve it.”

If the definition of “deserve” is “are qualified per the school’s admissions standards,” then please understand that there a far more students who “deserve” admission than the number of spots available for admission. That is when the admission process turns into a yield management situation. At that point in time, beyond “hooks” that may come into play (e.g., five violin players declined our offer, we really need to fill that hole, so go find a waitlisted student who’s a violin player and make an offer, or acceptances are running 65-35 male-female, let’s get some girls in here!), there is arguably a degree of randomness to admissions that approaches “luck or karma.” Even my hooks examples involve an element of “luck or karma,” as they’re dependent on unpredictable factors beyond the applicant’s control.

Because of the “boom” and the economy, the 2009 college admissions process is very much about yield management.

no, not ALL college acceptances are based on luck, but there are a few that are.
i read somewhere that a guy on the admissions council had some really bad buffalo wings the day before, so the next day he didn’t even look at those from Buffalo, NY.

you never know what the people on the admissions council do behind closed doors.

Rejected to??? You mean rejected from?? Good thing the acceptances don’t hinge on grammar :)

this isn’t arrogance… this is all of us cowering together, preparing for the harsh blow of our first rejections to come :/

This thread is really funny. Are people going to come back and notify us that they’re leaving the club after they get their Ivy rejections? Or is it once a member, always a member?

xD

I’ll quickly post before I get my Stanford notification. =]

I really don’t see anything wrong with this thread. It’s just celebrating an accomplishment. I still have four schools to hear from, and I doubt I’ll get accepted to them all, but I just feel that so far, 6/6 is a great thing to be proud of. Why shouldn’t I be free to? Like, if I end up getting rejected to Princeton, I’m not going to feel resentment to anyone else who got in…or even insist that they don’t post with their acceptances and excitement. That’s silly.

congrats on dartmouth man^

arch3r25 hasn’t been rejected or waitlisted by any it. dunno which colleges though, but I do know he got a couple likelies

Thanks, BigWeight. You too. :)

Does waitlisted count as rejected?
If so, up until today:
University of Vermont
University of New Hampshire
University of Rhode Island
American University
Fairfield University
Fordham University
Boston University
New York University

And today:
Trinity College (CT) - waitlisted
But I’m still happy because I was sure I’d get rejected.

Congrats everyone on getting in everywhere!!!
