Here’s my little encouragement story:
I recently got into NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. It’s definitely one of my top choices and because I had to audition to get in, I went through a whole lot of low confidence days where I believed I wasn’t a good enough singer or actress.
With admissions at NYU, the audition/artistic review counts for 50% and academics counts for 50%, which is really scary. One doesn’t outweigh the other. But, my audition went pretty well and I went back to school … back to waiting.
Then, I found out that some of the accepted students would receive invitations to Washington Square in NYC in order to learn more info about the school and meet other admitted students. So every day of last week, I ran home and looked at the mail. Then, on Friday, before math class, I called my dad and nonchalantly asked if there was any mail for me. He said there was a letter there from NYU. At that moment, I tried not to freak out, but then he told me that it said, “Congratulations! Join Us!” on it. So then, I proceeded to run to my Drama teacher and hug her a few times. I told my friends, who didn’t even know I had auditioned (because I kept it a secret, thinking I wasn’t good enough to get in).
Let me say, for the record, that NYU is the only school I auditioned for. All of the colleges that I applied to set me up for a great career in law. But during the application process, I realized that I couldn’t, just couldn’t, apply to NYU’s College of Arts and Sciences and not participate in drama classes. So, on a whim, I decided to audition. It was a longshot (especially when you consider all of the high school seniors that audition at 7 or more musical theatre/drama schools), but I got in. And I’ve never been so excited.

Sorry for the really long post.

Yes! I danced with joy.
