The IDOC

So I recently came to the realization that I completely forgot to fill out the IDOC for the 12 colleges I applied to. Not sure how I managed to do that, and I’m not very happy. Does this disqualify me from acceptance?

Is this a serious question?

If it is file it immediately. It will not disqualify you but will delay your financial aid until they process paperwork. Also at need aware schools they may look on this as disinterest. If you have any of those that you are still waiting I would email your admissions representative, not mention this major issue but just politely remind them you are still interested.

Yes it was, thank you. I know I’m an idiot.

Yes in the email just say give name and Common App number and high school
, Dear , I just wanted to indicate my continued interested in _. I am particularly interested in _ program, teacher or aspect of school (pick one).

If you have any new achievements list them.

Thank you for your consideration at this busy time.

Very truly yours,

I would only do this for need aware schools since they know the status of your financial application.

Need blind schools have supposedly no idea whether you even asked for FA in the first place.

Fill out the paperwork today

I am confused by this advice. Tell the FA departments at all your schools that you didn’t realize you had to do IDOC, and are hurrying to get it done. Forget crafting an additional update, get that paperwork done. You risk getting shut out of FA.

I guess that would be another tactic. First thing, get FA done ASAP.

^ ^ may be right. I had assumed that these were upper tier need based/meet full need schools such as ivies or top 20 schools since most of the others have released decisions and you first concern was getting rejected because you neglected to fill out IIDOC, as opposed to getting shut out of FA totally. In my experience, most full needs schools are not as strict about documentation deadlines as they could be but YMMV and this is not a reason to delay.

I thought OP was worred that his lack of IDOC forms would appear as indifference and would compromise his admission not his FA. This wold not matter at need blind schools since admissions has no idea of his FA status but was theoretically possible at need aware schools since the admission counselors have access to his FA file. Which is why I suggested letting need aware schools know he is still interested in them if he applied to any.

If you are applying to schools that are first come, first serve and do not guarantee to meet full need and leave a gap then yes ^ ^ is correct and you do risk getting shut of FA and I would consider his advice.

I am surprised, in general, that you have not gotten reminders indicating that you were missing IDOC documents, after you did your FAFSA and CSS Profile.
