<p>(This is all true by the way and does not necessarily represent the views of the poster and any others reading this thread):
This is the new part:
a) democrats are condemned
b) other ethnicities are allowed into college, and they're respected by everyone (for joining this crazy place), but they're not allowed to speak their own dialects, only english
c) most professors here graduated from bj (can u see the vicious cycle here?)
d) punished for not vacuuming room on time
e) buddy system (your dormmate basically reviews you and tells them if you're worshipping enough, and since everyone is believed if they say you don't pray enough you get placed on spiritual probation
f) hair must be "tapered" on the back of the head, and must be kept short
g) huge line for getting permission to go off campus
h) if accused of breaking a rule, you are GUILTY until proven innocent
i) no rights - rooms searched, phones checked all the time, computer interet privileges blocks
j) interracial dating though recently allowed, is frowned on by everyone (social pressure?)
k) academic creativiity is violently attacked verbally</p>
<p>Old:
1) you can't date any girl only on sundays after prayer and up to 4 pm
2) you must go back to your dorm by 10 pm
3) when you enter the college they make you throw away all your music (they hate rock for example)
4) only g rated stuff is allowed
5) there used to be vehement segregation only a few years ago (they wouldn't allow blacks date whites)
6) being creative and an individual is strongly opposed and disliked here. you MUST be a conformist
7) their school is not respected by 99 percent of grad schools and the job force. it is looked down upon severely.
exs) 1. The school of nursing is not NLN accredited nor do they intend to be...this WILL cause a problem when and if you decide to get a Masters degree.
2. The school of nursing has a twisted view of psychiatric medication and the treatment of psychiatric illness.
3. The school of nursing does not allow any room for disagreement of the above teachings, if you openly disagree, you are labeled a "troubled christian."</p>
<p>8) have to wear a uniform off campus
9) dates off campus require a member of faculty to come with you and you must pay for their plate also
10) demerits for being late and skipping class
11) you get "campused" (like detention) for holding hands with a girlfriend outside the sunday dating itme
12) required to attend chapel every day (unless due to a medical emrgency)
13) this college isn't accredited by 99 percent of colleges and when you ask them personally, they tell you the only accrediation you need is from god.</p>
<p>First of all, Bob Jones has an entire school system, all the way from Bob Jones Elementary School to Bob Jones University. So you can be Amish and shun progress and anything that even hints at post-15th century liberalism for your entire childhood. </p>
<p>Their entrance requirements aren't exactly rigid, but what caught my eye was that simply graduating from a high school that must be **pre-approved by BJU<a href="aka...ya%20know,%20it's%20gotta%20be%20a%20holy%20high%20school%20:-/">/b</a> meant automatic entrance into the University. </p>
<p>I wonder how many pranks have been pulled on this University. I'll bet there have been quite a few...I know if I lived in NC, this would be one of my favorite destinations at 2:00am on Saturday morning...</p>
<p>From the website:
"Dishonesty, lewdness, sensual behavior, adultery, homosexuality, sexual perversion of any kind, pornography, illegal use of drugs, and drunkenness all are clearly condemned by God's Word and prohibited here. Further, we believe that biblical principles preclude gambling, dancing, and the beverage use of alcohol."</p>
<p>If you read Al Franken's book "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them", there's a chapter where he goes to Bob Jones with a research assistant, pretending that his research assistant his a prospective student. It's rather funny. At the end, Franken points out that the folks at BJU are nice, even though they're different.</p>
<p>Bob Jones University often puts on Shakespeare...ha. No problems with humanity as depicted by Wm Shakespeare....anyhow. Bob Jones jr often used to cast himself in the leads. Hilarious. Except for how sad it was to me that the students there actually had parents that felt this cultish atmosphere was healthy. Really. You gotta feel for kids whose only escape is to actually go there.</p>
<p>I don't even think we can look at this place as a real college. It seems more like a pre-baptist minister school. Perhaps if we view it through that lens, it might seem less radical? </p>
<p>Oh hell, they're a bunch of wackos, there's no justifying it!</p>
<p>uh scwaby did you not read that list? they're pretty rascist already. women are basically inferior to men here as well, etc, etc.</p>
<p>and most importantly, individualism and own ideas are vehemently opposed and shunned at (aka getting the boot from the illustrious b.j. university)</p>
<p>what i've read from the students who graduate from this boot camp, is that they can't get any jobs/get into grad school, and they become severe alcoholics (because they never had the chance to drink). and it's not because the want to drink the alcohol, its because they want to "revolt" against BJ.</p>
