The importance of extra curriculars(Advice for you)

Next year I will be going to college. I know alot from experience on what colleges like and expect from good students.

One student I knew had a 4.4/4.0 weighted with several A+'s and 2300 SAT and several 800 SAT2s. Applied to Ivys, HYPSM and some other Ivys. However, he had NO extracurriculars. He is going to Berkeley next year

Another student with similar stats but alot more extracurriculars(Siemens contest winner, intel contest, AMC) is going to Harvard

Another similar kid is going to MIT

Bottom line is if you want to have a good chance, you need to excel in academics and extracuricul cum

ummm… Thanks?

Really!? I didn’t know that at all… I was just working my butt off in ECs for 4 years for the fun of it! But you’re telling me it might help in college admissions? Awesome!

bump 10 char

So being perfect is ideal? Brilliant…

Here’s the real kicker. Imperfect student (me) gets 2190 SAT, MANY Bs on report card, no competition wins, but many cool ECs and gets into Swarthmore and is a finalist for their one and only full ride merit scholarship…

You can get into great colleges with imperfect stats but great ECs and a cool essay.

Jetson: you’re missing our attempts at sarcasm. Your info, while nice of you to share, is rather basic and common sensical.

Summary of your points:

Kid A with XXXX stats and no ECs gets fewer accepts
Kid B with XXXX stats and nice ECs gets better accepts

This is no revelation.
