the importance of having a job

i'm a senior this year, and i've never had a job.

my parents never wanted me to have one, and whenever i bring it up, they go on this typical spiel about how school and getting into college are my jobs. but then, i'm like.... there are so many benefits to having a job, including in college admissions (right?). i haven't brought it up since the summer before junior year, and maybe if i asked now, as a big senior, they'd tell me it's my choice. plus all my friends have jobs, and they don't technically need them, either, but they really enjoy working. but i do have a lot on my plate right now, so i'm wondering if getting a job would significantly improve my college applications.

tldr: do colleges care if you have a job in high school? is it greatly important to them?

Nah, it’s not important.

anyone else? since i can’t take repede’s comments seriously LOL

Lol I’m actually being serious. It’s a good EC, but it’s not required.

If you get a job, do it for personal gain ($$$) or whatever rather than college admissions. It would just be considered another EC.

No particular EC is required/necessary, though having a job looks good. (Even if it’s a menial job, because it shows colleges that you aren’t too overprivileged/full of yourself.)

so colleges wouldn’t care that i have no work experience, in the “real” world?

another question: if i’ve been in a lab since sophomore year, does that count as a sort of unpaid job? almost like an internship? i have to go at least twice a week to “feed” my cells LOL and stuff like that
so maybe that would count as a job, though of course i’m not paid
