The importance of SAT II's?

I am currently doing my UC applications and am trying to apply to UC Berkeley’s College of Engineering to major in Computer Science. However, I have not taken a single SAT Subject test and read that Berkeley recommends taking couple of subjects test such math and etc for the school of engineering.

I would like to know if I still have a good chance of getting into it without any subject tests or should I just apply to College of letters and science which does not require it. I am just guessing here, but it seems that College of Letters and science has lower standards and I would really like to get into College of Engineering.

Just would be nice to know, what are my chances of getting into College of Engineering without SAT IIs?

My personal take on the UC subject test recommendations, based on what I’ve heard from others, is that when the UCs say “suggested/optional”, I would interpret that as a VERY strong hint that you should take these tests. Any chance you could register for the tests next weekend?

the uc application website said that all the standardized tests must be taken by december (which i assume they are including the december tests also. they know that there are december tests.) and my counselors said so too. sign up for the december test and on your application, say you will send it from collegeboard.

I could attest to what onemoreinthenest said. When a UCLA admission direction came to my HS, she said that anything that is “recommended” should be interpreted as it’s pretty much required since you’ll be competing against a pool of applicants that meet or even surpass these recommended criteria.
