I have been reading a ton on McGill and have since become very interested in the school. The coach of the XC program has reached out to me as well which has helped push me in their direction. I understand that McGill is purely numbers based when it comes to admissions but I was wondering how senior year grades factor in and how I should have my grades turn out this year should I want to be accepted. Also, would being in contact with the coach have any sort of influence on admission like it does in the US?

Typically I would post my extensive list of ECs but I'l narrow it down to a few that matter most along with my transcript(not sure if a different GPA should be calculated). Thanks in advance!

Focus on the requirements for each department you are interested in. The university wide minimum at the bottom of the page is generally not enough.

McGill applications are more of a checklist of requirements than anything else. They want to see a good balanced students who achieves the all the benchmarks for tests and grades that they set out. The good part about this is that if you meet all their standards you will almost certainly be admitted, the downside is that if you do not your chances of getting in are slim. In short the line between safety and reach is very narrow.

First of all, from what you posted, your gpa is good enough to get into department. (However McGill doesn’t look at grade 9 marks, only grade 10, 11 and 12, so you should recalculate your gpa accordingly). Your ACT od 33 is excellent, and is well above any of the standards. Your SATII scores also exceed all the departmental standards (I believe that the most stringent, life sciences wants a 670 in all SATIIs)
You also have a long laundry list of difficult AP courses in your 11 and 12th years, which will look good for the admissions department.

Since you match or exceed all the listed academic standards, your in. Barring some major downturn in your grades next year you can put McGill down as a safety.

And btw this evaluation is purely based on your grades, the fact that they are interested in you as an athlete is just gravy.

PS: fun fact, the Montreal Alouettes, Montreal’s football team currently play their home games in Percival Molson Stadium, which is the school stadium where you will be training if you end up going to McGill. I know it is just the CFL, but how many universities can claim they host a city team every other week. There are some fun block parties with fans after home wins :)

What’s your UW GPA without freshman year? If it is 3.7+ then McGill is a safety anywhere except law, dental or med school (all of which can be accessed as undergraduates only as in-province students)

But be aware that Canadian XC scholarships can only cover tuition at most.
