The Importance of the SAT Essay

Hi guys. I recently got a 1500 on the SAT with an 18/24 on the essay portion. With the new essay, will it be looked at any different? I am for sure retaking the SAT, but I’m focusing a lot more on math and writing (I got a 39/40 for reading, and this is a major improvement from my ACT reading score of 28). Should I worry about the essay? Will a day or two of practice be sufficient? Btw I have plenty of time to study

In my opinion, the essay isn’t that good. I don’t consider myself a good writer whatsoever, but I got a 23/24 on an essay. I would attribute more value to the main scores: verbal and math. A 1500 is an AMAZING score! Good job. The SAT essay score depends on the school your applying to. For instance, if you want to apply to Stanford, then I would retake the SAT w/essay and bump that score up - Stanford requires the essay; however, a school like Cornell doesn’t require the essay, so you’re fine in that aspect. I would say a 20+ on the essay is a good score, if you’re going to retake it. Good luck!
