Alright, so I have a 3.9 GPA...I think the academic half of resume is essentially settled...but I've always felt that I've never had enough extracurriculars. I've made an effort to join more clubs this semester, but I want to know what I ought to be doing in my clubs or in the pursuit of new clubs to prepare to apply for transfer to a number of schools...

These are the ECs I'm apart of now:

WCCR - City College Radio Station - DJ & Member
Asian Culture Club - Member
Road to Law School Club - Member
Secularist, Atheists, Agnostics and Freethinkers Club - Founding Member
Campus Anti-War Network - Member

Former ECs:
High School Asian Culture Club Member
High School Amnesty International Club Member
Technician @ local Church
Lecturer/Speaker @ local Church

What I should I be doing to beef up my ECs? I live in NYC, so if you can recommend particular organizations that would be fantastic.

it's more than just being a member of a club. it's holding leadership positions in clubs you have a vested interest in. that said, GPA is by far more important so don't sweat it.

don't join clubs simply to "beef" up your resume...participating in a club without a leadership role for 1-2 hrs a week is not going to mean a whole heck of a much when your application is being reviewed...if you can show even a couple of activities that you are really dedicated to and have a leadership role within you will fare far better than the individual with lots of fillers on her/his application

Sethosayher, you don't go to NYU by chance?

I'm a freshman and I find that in clubs open to the whole school, it's hard for freshman to get leadership positions. The presidents of clubs are almost always upperclassmen who have been in that club for years. The exeption is clubs like Freshman student council or other freshman-only clubs.

I'm in 3 clubs, I participate like 3-4 hrs each per week, no leadership positions...does that look bad?

I agree with star, it's pretty hard to get leadership positions and I don't feel like planning any coups...

I want to transfer to USC (from Tulane), but so far I'm only involved with the College Democrats and a few other smaller clubs and causes when I can. I won't be able to get a job until next semester, so is there anything else I could/should be doing?

And does marathon training count? Ultimately I plan to do it for charity, but that's a bit random.

what do you mean by count? you may certainly put it on your list of ec's, i put rec. basketball on mine, but its not going to weigh that heavily on your application either way
