“The Indecision Tour” (Washington Post)

“THE RUMORS ARE FLYING! THE RUMORS ARE FLYING! Like the one about the kid in Arizona, who, despite an academic record worthy of Einstein, wasn't accepted by even one of the 12 colleges he applied to. Or the one I heard at a party about a stellar student who desperately wanted to go to school in California, but ended up just down the road in Boston at her college of last resort. Not to mention the one about the boy who killed himself when he didn't get into Princeton. As if, as a parent, I don't already have enough anxiety?

“Meanwhile, plugged into his Walkman in the back seat of our rented car as we head up Interstate 95 to the hunting grounds of southern New England, my own little college applicant, all 6-feet-1 1/2-inches of him, is having a low-key, long-term anxiety attack of his own.
