The Indian Thread #19

Neem it’s good that your ACT went well! :)

I really did not know MIT and harvard were this close…

OK people… so, how much does ‘** NOT ** applying for fin. aid’ really help?

^It helps at a lot of places compscifan. International money is always welcome, and not applying for aid opens up your choices like hell.

Compscifan-It does make a difference. A lot of colleges are need blind for US students, so they obviously prioritize funding them over Internationals. Many colleges, like UPenn, say that they will reject applicants who apply for FA if the Uni no longer has funds to support them, despite the fact that the applicant would’ve been qualified otherwise. There are only about 6 (I think, this number may have changed) schools that are need blind for Internationals, and not surprisingly they’re the toughest schools to get into (I believe its Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, MIT, and Amherst). So you see, applying for FA really does make a difference to your application as it automatically places you in a more competitive pool.

Cornell ED results …
Just read some posts on the ED result thread… think abt those who were accepted but can’t go due to the little or no aid they are being offered…

That’s even more disappointing that being rejected…

what do you do if your mit interviever is a complete ahole?

Why? What happened ?

my sibling’s MIT interviewer last year was a total ahole. He didn’t show up for the interview and didn’t ever apologize for missing. It was rescheduled two days later and apparently, he hid behind laptop screen and didn’t make eye contact throughout the interview. Heard similar complaints from others. There is nothing you can do. Hope for the best. I hate to generalize but I have a bad impression about MIT undergrads.

Can anyone here give views on RHIT…

I mean… US news ranks it better than HMC. But obvio HMC is a much better place to go than RHIT…

So how does it fare in terms of prestige, campus and strength of engg. program ??

compscifan, congrats!!!

Here are my 2 cents:

RHIT has a very good reputation. You can not really compare HMC and RHIT. They are totally different types of schools even though US News puts them in the same category.

I think RHIT has better dorms and campus but then social scene may not be as good as what you will find at Claremont.

If you are certain about specific field of study in engineering then I think you will be better off at RHIT.

First heard abt this college 2 weeks back (nkhlgeorge’s post)
Applied on Dec. 2 accepted on 13th!

Anyone made it into Brown ED from this thread?

@Tippu man my interviewer was exactly the same. He hid behind the laptop screen and it seemed as if he came there to contradict me.
Interviewer: Do you like working in groups?
Me: Yes, i enjoy working in groups.
Int: So do you work as part of groups often?
Me: no, i dont get to work often in groups but we manage about 5 hrs a week for my railgun project.
Int: There, you are contradicting yourself.
Me: How?
Int: You said you like to work in groups but you dont work in groups often, isn’t that contradiction?
Me: No, i said i like to work in groups but i dont get to work in groups often due to other commitments like JEE coaching etc.
Int: If you like something you find means to do it.
Me: *** ahole, you like Discovery space shuttle so do you go buy it?

ROFL. What else?
(You obviously didn’t say that, Did you?)

Did you really answer that ? I love it! They should admit just for that!

hahahahahahahahaha

I think MIT interviewers get brownie points in the alumni association (another ego trip) for conducting these interviews. Typically they have to submit a report after the interview. For many universities, format of the interview is not rigid. It is a casual conversation. I think these MIT interviewers are too busy to spend the time afterwards to think about the interview before submitting the report. They behave like little robots, focusing on the report instead of interacting with another human being.

no obviously i didnt answer like that, i think my chances for mit have drastically dropped after that interview, honestly it didn’t go well.

nomad, I don’t think you should worry about your admission chances based on that interview. That sort of behavior reflect poorly on the institutions they represent than you.

^True. One interview won’t harm you.

Err so what did you answer to that statement of his?
