^ Yes. Like clearing JEE is a piece of cake.

Nomad, u’re at Bansal, vibrant or ??

Seriously?

Oh and best of luck for JEE. That exam is always boring.

Woah! Cricket club was the the first club EVER to be established in University of Pennsylvania …

came up sometime in 1840s

@ivycollege i’m at bansal. Yeah it aint piece of cake but i atleast have better chances than the us colleges here.

!!!

Nomad, WHY!?!!??!?!

With the new colleges added to the existing IITs, it is much easier to clear it. If one has been preparing seriously for it the past two years, and is moderately intelligent, the he should definitely make it to EML atleast. One is not competing with the 4 lakh appearing. One is only competing with the select few who are actually worth competing with. The main question is about the rank one gets.

EML system has been discontinued. And even if one made it to EML, then what?

Moderate intelligence would get you nowhere in JEE.

And yeah, the main question is what rank you get. There is seriously NO point studying in any IIT other than Kanpur, Kharagpur, Bombay, Delhi & Madras.

For example, IIT Mandi looks like a roadside hotel. They’ve bought on RENT a building with 4-5 rooms and labelled it a IIT. Somewhat similar case for IIT Jodhpur.

How about IISc? Isn’t it good? I know that it is predominantly a graduate school but I heard that they are starting a normal undergraduate program - one which you can join after std. XII.

IISc is just starting undergraduate programs at least in a few departments, the undergraduate stuff is taking baby steps…In fact I believe its form our batch that undergrads will start( even their website hasnt been updated properly…damn!)… IISc is top-notch, in science research… its the very best India has to offer… but since they’re still relatively new, they’ll take people through that KVPY thing, or in some disciplines the EML… though heard that they might consider board marks too, my dad’s a visiting fellow at IISc and he gave me such vague info!

But, the post grad and phD… IISc, B’lore especially is even better than the IITs…

Depends on your definition of ‘moderately intelligent’.
maybe I should have phrased this better. A student who studies diligently, gets good advising, right books, right teachers and is yes, moderately intelligent should almost definitely get into IIT. And why do I say this? Because not many people actually do get all of the above, even the ones in FIITJEE or any other good coaching. My own classmate who used to be considered not very intelligent in 10th, and never ever would anyone have thought he would be able to figure out different IIT problems, is now in R2 FIITJEE, Kalu Sarai. Do you get the significance of which batch he is in, compscifan seeing that you’re from Delhi and seem well versed with engg stuff? Rankers 2 at Fiitjee kalu sarai, which is its best branch in india. And I know exactly how he reached there. He got all of the above. It’s still unbelievable. His predicted IIT rank is within top 3000 in any event.

Coming onto the competancy of each IIT; I never commented on how good they were. Acquantances at Hyderabad seem to be quite okay there. Nomad didn’t specifically restrict himself to the top 5 you mention.

Tippu, as you know, IISc is basically known for grad. I’ve been out of this engg stuff for a year, so dunno much about the undergrad program. It looks quite good though!

I did IIT stuff for a year, got a FTSE rank of 54, and then I dropped it … simply because I was not ready to sacrifice myself to this struggle… too many people vying at each other’s throats… moderately intelligent? some of them were not even intelligent but worked like hell, they almost studied for 25 hours a day!..

Well, they are right now sitting pretty with expected ranks of 2000-4000 and I am running after US colleges, something that might never mature, what with aid and all…

Exactly my point. Lots of intelligence is of little use if it is not utilised. Many hardworkers get ahead in JEE solely by their diligence. IIT exam has become slightly more ‘takeable’ if you get what I mean. I think that’s why they’re trying to change the exam structure? Because they’re not happy about the quality of kids they’re getting? I faintly recall something about this.

“For example, IIT Mandi looks like a roadside hotel. They’ve bought on RENT a building with 4-5 rooms and labelled it a IIT. Somewhat similar case for IIT Jodhpur.”

LOL, that’s funny!

^What’s so funny?

Sorry to interrupt in between.

As far as I know, even after getting pathetic funds from the central government, the people their are trying their best to spread IIT EDUCATION. They have even hired some of the most reputed and sought-after professors of the country! At best what I can say is, the officials are doing their best to grow the institution.

If I am not wrong, Yale started from two small rooms.

^Ah that’s true…My apologies.

^fail.

10char

Haha! Don’t worry. It shows you are a typical Indian (I assume because you post on Indian forum quite often). :)

In my opinion at this point of time there is simply no point in going to the newly opened iit’s because if you want quality education the original seven are unbeatable, yeah its true they will grow so one should go there when they grow. We dont sit under a mango sapling to save ourselves from the heat of the sun saying it will mature into a tree that will give us shade.
