The Indian Thread #19

^And I GET the 1000th POST!!! :D

^ Arrey yaar. I had this in mind when I saw 995 posts, but then forgot about it.

Brown admitted 29.

Seriously, how hard is it to use google?

Hmmm I did hear about the UP State Board’s “slow painful death” curriculum, and that was why I stated the rigor varied from state to state. Andhra Pradesh’s State Board exams are a joke (not that I’m capable of acing it but that is a reflection of my ability; the exams are still useless). Still, I should have specified I was talking about my state, so I take back my vague and thoughtless statement.

But that leads me to the more relevant question - do admissions officers know anything about various State Boards? They obviously know ISC well, and probably CBSE, but State? I somehow can’t imagine American adcoms knowing much about every single state board here.

CBSE well, ISC probably …

^How about they know BOTH well??

“Andhra Pradesh’s State Board exams are a joke”

Lol yea true that. Explains my 94 in 11th boards xD. However i don’t think adcoms really distinguish between CBSE and State board or atleast thats what most people say.

@rsaxena Im guessing you are from Hyderabad?

Lol no wonder violator got a 94 average.
Yes, the AP board exams are a joke to say the very least. People get like 99% and all that and its incredibly easy to cross 90 from what I hear

Lol yea i started studying a week and a half before the boards in the 11th grade. However after Cbse the State board is a nice change, no more mugging xD.

That’s why I stated that his SAT might play a bigger role. If the adcoms actually know that the 94% is nothing, they’ll look to his SAT obviously, until and unless he/someone else in his position has some bigger academic awards.

Correct, as long as you put in one week of solid prep and are good at memorizing stuff.

Correct.

Well, maybe. Still, they probably know better than to place CBSE and State at the same level.

Anyone got the UC questionnaire?

^ That’s the UC version of the ivies’ ‘likely admission’ letter; Only difference being that it is a questionnaire and more like your admission decision being in your hands.
I think UCB and UCLA hand it out to a select group of applicants each year.

So, Congo chromey!. (if you got it?) What questions does it ask basically.

^How do the applicant’s answers to this questionnaire affect his/her admission chances?

Umm… Since I’ve not seen one I am really not sure but it kinda is given if you are a borderline case.
It might contain ‘Why-this-activity-on your-app’ or one or two lines to write about something. Any info (grades/achievements/ECs) that u want to give after submitting your app.

So, how do they affect admission chances?
->A second shot at your application.

Should I be worried if I don’t get it?
I only have a 2040 on my SAT and 790 and 730 on my Subject Tests.
Does that mean I’m a reject?

I didn’t get any questionnaire! Oh well, goodbye Berkeley and UCLA.

@Everybody - Hi everybody.
whisper I wonder why I didn’t look at this thread earlier…it was right next to the Indian ED one
<.<

@aniruddhc - Wahey! Slow down, bro! They’re releasing decisions on 25th March. So there’s plenty of time for you to get one (assuming they’re sending one at all). So, there’s no point getting worried about a questionnaire (or lack of which) till somebody posts that they’ve got it for 2011 Fall admissions. I’m 2230 (SAT I) + 2400 (SAT II) and even I didn’t get it (if we’re going to be naive enough to base that on the SAT scores alone).

P.S. And a happy republic day to you all.

Who isn’t?
