The Indian Thread #19

^ Don’t get stressed out dude. Check this link out it shows how this invitation is not even related to the admissions process.http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-berkeley/1080966-getting-invite-leadership-award-good-sign.html

@itsmylife- What your colleges and stats like??

LOL. I was obviously speaking figuratively. You’ll get the e-mail soon. And waise bhi, it’s like a $2000 thing. It’s nice, but not really substantial, at least for me.
“Funded through the generosity of Cal alumni and supporters, The Leadership Award is a one-year, merit-based scholarship providing incoming freshman students up to $2,000 each year as recognition of their past leadership and future potential. It is one of the most prestigious scholarship programs at UC Berkeley.”

Thanks, man. I really hope I do. But still, considering gap year as an option, please try to answer my question!

Hmm, haven’t we had this conversation before? You may wanna check your inbox :D

Oh sorry my bad. I just remembered. And yeah I am quite sure you will make it into one of your reaches.

Also personally i believe that taking a gap year might not be the brightest idea and transferring seems like a better option.( this is just what i think you may disagree)

Ani did you check your junk mail?..my scholarship email was in the junk folder :P

^ ^Well you have to plan your Gap year out before considering it, I think that’s a given. However, if you’re applying for aid isn’t it always better to apply as a first year applicant rather than a transfer? There aren’t many Unis that offer aid to transfer International applicants, and naturally the ones that do are more often than not incredibly competitive to get in to.

Umm, well, I don’t think I can get through the waiting(and the eventual rejections!) without having some other people in the same predicament to hyperventilate with. So I think I’m going to become a regular poster!
No point in the usual “chance me” post because I am, like most of you, a '15, and I think I can wait till April. Soooo…I’m going to simply join you in your gap year discussion. Well, I’m not even thinking of doing a gap year because 1)my parents wouldn’t hear of it, 2)I’m the kind of person who might while the whole year away reading novels and staring into space. So, while I’m pretty convinced I won’t get into any of the schools I applied to(all reaches), I think I’m just going to do undergrad here and apply to grad school.

Hey Tiyas. Where have you applied?

Hello! I applied to Columbia, Cornell(CAS), Amherst, Williams, Colgate, Wellesley, Drexel, Swarthmore. What about you? :)

And Drexel’s not a reach, but I’m not keen on attending.

Welcome to TiT Tiyas!
I’ve applied to Colgate and Wellesley as well! I’m not so keen on Colgate though. Definitely prefer Wellesley over Colgate. And well, you’ll never know you know? Try not to think about it too much. I know it’s nerve wracking, but try and keep yourself as distracted as possible.

Haha, yes thank you, the boards are keeping me successfully distracted for now. And I’m just the kind of person who likes to take the worst case scenario for granted so that anything good comes as a pleasant surprise! I am really not agonizing as much over this as may be concluded from my previous posts.

And I prefer Wellesley too! Only I hear it is stingier than Colgate when it comes to FA for international students.

And what do you suppose will change within one year which will help you get admission into your reaches?

Exactly. Plus you’ll need to score 94ish+ in the 12th if you wanna make your HYPSM dream come true.

Also, gap years are not looked at favorably and tippu you aren’t waiting for anything you got Caltech and University of Chicago already

which reminds me …
Hey Tippu, why haven’t you ever shared you stats n all here? (or it might be possible i never saw it?)

Wow, that’s impressive Tippu.

Aniruddh, I thought it was itsmylife who was considering a gap year and not Tippu?

Tippu said that he is “waiting for decisions, just like everyone else”

Oh and he got into UT-Austin too. If that even counts xD

Hi all been long time since i last posted here, how are you all?
Read my new haiku

Always killing or maiming;
Oh the uncertainity.

I don’t know… That’s why I asked you guys what I could do during the gap year. But off the top of my head, I could perhaps go to France (or some other nice country which I’ve been longing to visit) for an education program, do an internship here and there, and most importantly, spend a great deal of time on my essays… as opposed to writing them during very the last hour of the deadline for submission (as I did this time around).
