What is going on here Im really confused??

@Violator

We’re all as confused as you are. :p

And yeah, I didn’t apply to CalTech, was never interested. And by perfect SATs I meant perfect CR+M.

What is your Olympiad achievement?

PS: I really think CalTech didn’t take anyone from India this year. :|

@itsmylife : Oh **** man that is awesome please convince them not to apply to same colleges as me ??:-p

“PS: I really think CalTech didn’t take anyone from India this year. :|”

Yea sure seems that way dosen’t it?.. Wish i didn’t waste time applying there, feel like **** now.

“What is your Olympiad achievement?”

It was a few years ago and I’d rather not say to keep my anonymity. Sorry.

@Everyone

I might have asked you people this before but could someone tell me how many people do you think scored above 2300 in India this year?.. An approximation would be fine… thank you!!

you know, this SAT score obsession of yours really isnt good for you. I now know more princeton 2100s 2200s accepted than 2300s. delhi is always choking with many 2300ers rejected over other lower (although not too low obv) scorers at the end of the year. It’s the whole applicant, not just the score which can be easily brought up by test prep companies (although these companies are quite bad imo)

^Lol you made a small blunder.

Btw, it’s my H essay that’s about climbing mountains.

EDIT: Post #1(666) yea!

so? What are you trying to say by this anyway?
And by the way, wasn’t your Harvard essay supposed to be about ‘the pity you have for others’? I remember you saying that on TiT 18 version 2.

Nah, that was my CA essay. I’m not trying to mean anything. Just a fun coincidence, that I wanted to point out. :)

Now I’m convinced that EthicsPriority is a trojan ■■■■■.

has he read ur essay by any chance? And are there mountains near ur school? I didnt know m.climbing was big in bengal.

“you know, this SAT score obsession of yours really isnt good for you”

Lol yea i realized but man i am really going crazy over the admission decisions. Well the SAT scores are the only measurable quantity i can figure out over the internet. I am simply unable to figure out what is actually good enough to get me into a good college.What EC’s are actually enough to push me over the line and into other colleges. Hell I am at that point where I might actually end up giving my common app Id and password to people so they can get in there and give me a realistic chance of my admissions.

I know i might be rambling here but I am just extremely frustrated , Sorry :(

EDIT: Could someone please take a moment to expain this whole thing going on here so all of us aren’t that lost?

No way. My mountain was a metaphor. Btw, mountain climbing is big in Bengal and it’s among my EC’s. The only person besides me to have read my essay is rsaxena.

Mountains near Kolkata…are you kidding me? :p

So it could be Pton, Yale, Columbia, UPenn, Dartmouth, Duke, UChic ?

EDIT:
@pp: Oh I edited my post so it’s below yours now …

Wow…

is still reeling from recent exchanges on this thread

Witnessed reincarnation of scumdog’s first avatar. UnlimitedNighmares, it is your turn now.

cardan, I have been ignoring your stalking. You better watch out …

Violator, your frustration is understandable. CalTech has just about 250 slots and from what I understand, they had to cut back severely on several fronts, including FA. And, they have been trying to bring about gender balance. All else being equal, they definitely prefer female candidate. So, if you are a male international candidate needing FA then 2300 alone is not sufficient.

@Tippu Thanks I am feeling loads better now… Trying to console myself. Btw i didn’t apply for financial aid.

greetings from across the border! :)

tippusultan, i like your taste in music. you might like this: [YouTube - Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan - O Lal Meri Pat Rakhiyo Bala Jhoole Laalan](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

Knowing your friends, their decisions and other US-college applicants in your city/school, do you guys have any idea about how many Indians does/did UCLA accept? (a very rough estimate will do)

Nice links, Tippu. :)

pakipower, I was going to post a Nusrat Fateh version too. hehe. Nusrat is divine.

Has anyone of you seen Dead Man Walking? The background music is pretty extraordinary. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) collaborated to produce some really fine music. You might like this song from the film:

And this is a cover of the same song by Nusrat’s nephew Rahat Fateh Ali Khan:

Powerful, powerful music.

@Compscifan

UCLA’s acceptance rate this is said to be between 18-20%. About 10% of the admitted class is out-of-state, and 90% of the class is in-state. 4 of my friends from my city applied, one made it. That’s really all I know.

Will comment on Harish’s rant later. In for 2 minutes.
Well compsci, my alma-mater is a VERY prestigious school. Sends a number of ppl to the best of the best univs in USA and UK. Getting to the point, 23 applied to UCLA and not one made it. I’m talking about people who otherwise wud have gotten into a berkeley, ivy, etc. So… UCLA is really really difficult and you should be proud of yourself for getting in :-D

As for other friends in the city, no one made it, which I kinda found surprising… I’m the only one I know irl who got in!
