The Indian Thread #19

I was afraid it would come across like that; I promise you I did not mean it that way.

Mine is a totally unique path. I believe none of you would even have heard about such an academic journey before this. Hence your earliest chance to escape the system is to go to the US for college. And since that is exactly what you are doing, I have utmost respect for all of you.

It is very commendable that you were able to ‘find a way out’ Fabregas and I wish you best of luck!

Okay, should I carry a resume or email one to my interviewer? She has told me to choose one of the options.

Thanks pixie.

I think you should e-mail it. The interviewer will get the chance to go through the resume beforehand.

And also carry one to the interview; to be produced only if required.

Yeah, I emailed it to her. Thought it’d be better if she doesn’t havta read it then and there.

So yea, I’ve decided to go ahead with that admissions guide, and I’m taking it a step further by making it into a website. Woohoo. Should be done by the time the class of '16 are ready to apply. Or maybe even earlier. And I have the domain registered too.

excitement

Quoting Robert Frost,

“Two roads diverged
In a wood, and I-
I took the one
Less traveled by,
And that has made
All the difference.”

I’m waiting for Cornell to approach me with an interview request.

And, go Bluebox!
Let me know if I can help. I can help after the boards obviously.

Pixie are you giving JEE etc? If so, what is the registration procedure? I believe I can get a rank in the EML atleast.

Oh and I have a deep hatred for UK universities. I’ve discussed this on CC before.

They don’t recognize Indian qualifications like ISC and CBSE!

Esconie told me that she had done all the American qualifications- SAT1, SAT2, AP for Cambridge. She got five 5s or something in the APs she’d taken. She got in, obviously.

@Ani - Thanks for that. And a good idea - quoting Frost.

Now to see if it really does make all the difference.

Nothing for poor ignorant people like us blue_box???

@aniruddhc: Cornell ED? what major ?

Still confused about Computer science v/s Computer Engineering…
What are other CS applicants doing?

BTW, the USNWR Computer undergrad colleges rankings provided … they’re for CS ya CE?
In some colleges ( UMich for example ) you get admitted to the college of engineering. So then you can go in when admitted and choose the major you like after a yr.

In some others, CS falls in the college of natural sciences, so you either go for College of engineering or the college of sciences …

So … how can I know whether some college’s CS is better or CE.
Like UIUC … very good for a degree in computers … that’s what I see on the ranking on many websites … but are they referring to CS or CE???

Similarily , like GTech and Austin … they regularily feature in top 10 undergrad computer science major in almost all lists I see… again it’s CE department or CS?

Oh and another question … there’s no world limit on the common app personal essay … It just says 250 words minimum… So what limit do you guys think I should restrict myself to ?

IIT did not give out EML last yr … they’ve discontinued that list …

Guys, I JUST GOT BACK FROM THE HARRY POTTER PREMIERE
!!!

Wrong thread, my bad.

Csfan:
Just enough so that you put forward your view or story in a compelling and strong way. Don’t drag on unnecessarily.
I think the word limit depends on what u write and how u write it .
About 500 - 1000 should do.

Nothing at all. :(

Oh yea, stay active on CC, in case I do need your help later on.

1000 is a bit too much really. 700 should be more than sufficient.
