The Indian Thread #19

Is it true that esconie was initially waitlisted at MIT?

Accepted at MIT.
Accepted at Stanford.

EDIT: Oh, Sorry guys. I read her [post](<a href=“Acceptances? - International Students - College Confidential Forums”>Acceptances? - International Students - College Confidential Forums) wrong. She had written ‘waiting’ and most of her decisions were out so I interpreted that it would be a waitlist. Didn’t notice that it was before pi-day.

She wasn’t waitlisted… Wait I’ll send her a fb msg

Btw she was accepted at Cambridge also. And berkeley (duh).

compscifan and thetechnut, understand the orientation done. :)

Ok, so… no, I am not a recruited athlete. However, I am a national sport player so I don’t know if that indicates something!

For my stats,
SAT 1- 2230 (M780 CR730 W720)
SAT 2- 800 Math2, 800 Physics
ECs: head girl, national TT player, school magazine editor, school website editor, executive of the debate team, awarded best debater, Sports Authority of India scholarship recipient, semi professional dancer (kathak), science club member, awarded Merit Certificate for sports… The recommendations were pretty kickass… not so sure about the essays, though.

I have applied to:
UCLA (YAY)
UC Berkeley
UC San diego
UC Davis
Harvard
MIT (DUH)
Stanford
Princeton
Cornell
UChicago
UColumbia
Dartmouth
Yale
Amherst
Carnegie Mellon University

I know I applied to a LARGEEEE number of univs but then, I am applying for aid everywhere so I thought, safety in numbers. :))

I want to get to know all of you! Where are you applying. Which decisions have you received, what are your stats, etc…

Best of luck to everyone here… I hope we all get through somewhere awesome!

wow your ECs are awesome!!
we can gauge you better if you post your school marks and approx rank.
Very strong applicant in my book

@collegebeckons - Good stuff there. National TT player applauds. I’m sure you’ll be impressing many of the admission committee members in the universities you listed. And there’s nothing wrong with applying to many places.

So what’s your intended major? Assuming you have one, that is.

And I’m not really good at posting stats. Mainly because I did that too many times for the applications (OK, so a Common App helps, but meh). Besides, this is TiT, not a chance thread (which I never open), right? But feel free to extract individual pieces of information as and when you want. ;)

one of my friends got wait listed at Cal Tech with a 2040 SAT.
His school marks were average (90% in boards and 75 ish in 11th) but he had a few research papers done. Like he researched hydrogen fuel cells and the diminishing effect of gravity in water. Something like that.
Just thought you all would like to know.

Same here. Friend of mine got waitlisted too. Excellent SATs. Good school grades. Lots of research. Worked with him on one too. That one went national. :D

Guess places like MIT and caltech take research papers etc very seriously. Tippu had submitted a research paper too

Good stats, you have a shot, but why did you apply to CMU and the UCs? They don’t offer aid!!

True. CMU doesn’t. But UCs, being public, do charge less. ~20K USD, I think. But I don’t know about living costs yet. :|

ani, they do take research paper very seriously. Last year a guy from Nepal got in (to MIT) mainly because of his research paper.

UCLA and UC Berkeley are 53-57k per year, all inclusive, just like Harvard, CMU, Penn, etc.

You have good shot so you do stand an extremely good chance at all your colleges. Also why did you apply to CMU ( no aid for internationals) Stanford and Uc’s( stingy with aid) and Uchicago ( again stingy with aid). You could have applied to a few more need blind colleges imo.

You can find my stats at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1060886-chance-hopeful-will-chance-back-3.html</a>. Bump it if u can :).

Ooh. Ah. Awkard. But that’s OK. Have prepared parents for the eventual shock well enough.

Hey everyone!
I applied to the UCs as safeties… couldn’t decide any other university as a safety. :). Apparently, the UC people heard me!!!
Where all have you people applied to?
I hate this waiting game… why won’t the addcomms hurry up?? I am sick with worry!
Ok, UChicago coming up tomorrow… who is as scared as me???
Btw, any of you preparing for JEE?

Hey! I am preparing for jee , though currently, I’m occupied with CBSE boards. Just two to go!

I am a prospective student of M Engg in Mechanical Engg for Fall 2011 at Duke Univ.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about this course.
The course overall / duke reputation / job and internship opportunities and most important current students info - no of students in course etc …

Anyone from India??

@fabregas: OMG, CONGRATULATIONS!!! You got USP finalist? I’m so so happy for you! I remember ur story and you totally deserve it! this is awesome. XD

@Collegebeckons: our profiles are startlingly similar. Just treat it as a regular interview, I can’t give any more advice since personalities vary…mine ended up informal with him telling me about an urdu love poetry class he took to woo a girl, and me telling him how i couldn’t keep awake on SAT day, and oh, me trying to convince him why I wasnt such an amazing applicant for Harvard (TOTAL FIASCO), and HIM trying to convince me that I wasn’t too bad. I couldn’t be weirder. Ah well, moving on…i always did have a tendency to do unconventional interviews.

So, I turn all of 17 today! Wo, so many years alive and I’ve done nothing other than study and ECs. Embarrassing.

NOW that I’m done groaning and moaning about the woes and worries in my life, I’ll get back to math. Fingers crossed for Chicago and UCB applicants! Although i can’t for the life of me understand why anyone would want to go to the latter. What with budget cuts and everything, I hear it’s almost impossible to graduate in time as people can’t complete reqd credits in time.

Happy Birthday Perfectpixie!!! The boyfriend should stay!! It’s ok. My boyfriend is pretty darned crazy about his music and forgets all sorts of important stuff too. I guess, forgiving helps. :)))

The weird thing is, my Princeton interview went totally crazy. he started talking to me about Shiela ki Jawaani and how hot his Miss India friend is. By the time the interview ended, both of us had made good friends!! Not so with the Harvard one. It was pretty formal and everything. Where all have you applied to?

I am so happy to know our profiles match! Where all have you applied to? Lets see where end up!! Perfectpixie, I am hoping that you’re NOT a cc addict and will stay away from it at least on your birthDAY!!! Enjoy, girl! (I am assuming when you meant like ME, you were a girl too… lol)

Anyway, have a great day!
