The Indian Thread #20 (a)

Hi everyone!

Since the last thread got permanently locked, I have taken it upon myself to start a more 'college oriented' and 'formal' thread for the Class of 2016. Looking back at the first post of The Indian Thread #20, it seems we are following in the footsteps of the Class of 2015 and continuing with the 'tradition'. I did not name the thread as #21 so as to avoid confusion for the people who come after us. For those who want to reminisce in the very informative and sometimes humorous posts of previous threads, here is a list:

Note to moderator: I hope that we won't have more issues. I think we all have learned to post only in english, not post politically motivated speech, and not talk too much about issues not related to college, among other things.

Tizil should just point colleges to his CC account for leadership examples xD

CHPhysics, That seriously made me laugh :D

But I’m afraid the only consequences to such posts would be the increase in my post count on CC ;)

I hear you’re an author Tizil, congratulations!

Side note: That’d help you a lot with your admissions. :)

I hope it does ThatGuy, I hope it does :)

If it is any indicator, one of my friends here at Berkeley is one, and he made it to almost all the top schools.

As hopeful as I am, it’s just one factor; so I’ll have to make sure colleges like the ‘whole package’ :p

I guess the ‘slump’ before the results starts now.

So, I was reading the first page of the Indian Post #2 and it is surprising how so many people thought it would be weird to go to the US for undergraduate studies and then come back to India for a job. It baffled them as to why someone wouldn’t like to remain in the US.

Thoughts, anyone? I would really like to hear the '15ers opinion on this. Personally, I find nothing wrong with going to the US for just 4 years for a good education and then returning to India for a job.

Another thing I found funny was that the Indian Post #2 guys wanted to stay in the US for getting the citizenship and ‘NRI status’ Haha :D

^I plan on doing that too. Except it might be more than 4 years. Plan on going for PhD and whatnot. But yeah, it’s a promise to myself. Have to return to India and prove all those wrong who said I’d end up settling there >.<

Masters and PhD in the US as well? Looks like you have a lot of money ;)

Just kidding. But yes, I agree with your last line :p

plan 2 get my post graduation n get a job at an MNC in India :)

Oh yeah, I too want to work for a MoNsters, InC. some day.
We can only dream, no? :)

Monsters Inc lol

Tizil: Whoa, I never went through that post before; there were quite a few disturbing posts on that thread.
I agree, going to the US for education and then coming back to work is not a bad idea at all, and many would even suggest it seeing India’s booming economy and america’s …not-so-healthy one.
I plan to stay here to complete my education; I must say that I don’t think going for undergrad and then coming back for grad is a good idea, especially since grad schools there are decidedly better than those in India. After that, I haven’t quite decided…it’s entirely possible that I’m in neither country…
Also getting a US citizenship might not be a bad idea. A US passport gives you many perks. As long as you are Indian at heart, does it really matter what nationality you hold? Many Indians who live in India might be less “Indian” that many NRIs I have come across here! The question is though, what really is your definition of “Indian”, but then one must wonder whether one can really define “Indian”, because many people might believe themselves to be Indian for different reasons :)

@perfectpixie Deep words there. I agree with what you said. ‘Nationality’ is just a legal tag, its your values which define you.

+∞ :)

@perfectpixie maybe this is why american’s don’t like immigrants…

Haha funny that you said that :stuck_out_tongue: I read something extremely similar in a student common app essay once where the particular student pondered on the meaning of the hyphen in the word ‘American-Indian’. The student said that she felt more ‘American’ in India and more ‘Indian’ in America. Contributing to her split identity. It’s true isn’t it? You (not literally you) are more of one person at a particular place?

agentakki- I’ve got a major bout of senioritis :P

Some Columbia supplement essays for everyone to enjoy :D
