Guys, what do u think of colleges with total enrollment 20,000+ ??
Will it be too big and crowded or it will suffice??
Just asking, thinking of applying to Texas A&M.

Meh. It’s only 8000 more than my previous school :p

Actually, I don’t mind being in big schools … because you can find your own niche and still be part of something way bigger than yourself or that niche.

To be honest, I would prefer the thrill of meeting new people, even in my senior year :)

It’s more of a personal thing, than anything else.

Texas A&M is a different type of school and the size is not the most important factor to consider when discussing A&M. It is a conservative school in a rural setting with a predominantly caucasian population. It can be easy to feel out of place coming from another country at A&M although more American Indian kids seem to be joining lately which may alleviate the problem a bit.

The elder George Bush has a Presidential library at A&M and so he is known to show up on campus now and then and hang out with students.

^^ Whoa :eek:So,you mean that an Indian might have some difficulties at A&M ??
I was interested in it just because I considered it as Safety when I saw the average ACT and SAT scores. Might want to reconsider it…:o

I would not call it a difficulty but more of a adaptation requirement to the environment. I know lot of Indians who went there for graduate studies but usually graduate school is quite diverse while at undergrad level you have a large US student population which might be more homogeneous in nature and if you have good friendship making skills, you will be fine.

Cobalt, why do you think your princeton interview was terrible??

@Tizil, thanks a ton for the recommendations, I’ll be sure to check them out.

On the topic being discussed over the last few pages, a lot of the problem India faces is an obsession with money. Most people think money=happiness, so they pick careers which provide income, but no satisfaction.

I agree with everyone who said they do it out of a background of financial hardship, but after a certain level, no salary can ever match the joy that comes out of doing what you love to do. If more people believed this, India would be a better place. Anyway, that’s my two cents.

Oh, and speaking of interviews, how important are they? Are they super-formal meetings or is it just a casual conversation?

brewboy, from what I have heard, interviews do not play a very very significant factor for admissions in comparison to GPA and ECs. As long as you do not assault the interviewer, you should be fine. Interviews are always to your advantage because it is a chance to give color and life to your application. The interviews that I’ve experienced have just been casual conversations, but generally, it depends on the interviewer. So… don’t worry too much about it, just try to be normal and friendly, and subtly brag about yourself in a way that does not seem like bragging. :D

Wish everyone a very Happy Holi

^same to you :D

Holi haiiii! Happy Holi to all! It’s truly a Holiday ;)

Happy Holi guys!!! Same 2 u…

May this occasion bring u tons of acceptances :p

Since there has been a lot of talk about corruption and many of you are interested in political activism (connection to college and future studies), I thought it would be appropriate to post this video, if you haven’t seen it already. Though the charity’s spending may be questionable, its goal is not, and it has raised global awareness on a tremendous scale in a very short amount of time, which I believe is the first step in galvanizing action against corruption.

^^Same to both of you!
And happy holi to everyone else!
Personally, though, I will totally not go out and play :P

@Shrey- Well, it sounded like the questions were right off a list and it was impossible for me to sound enthusiastic to monotonic replies. There were NO questions on Pton, so I had to ask questions about it to steer the conv there. Overall, I don’t think I was able to demonstrate any interest at all/sound excited. It was a friendly conversation though, and I got interesting replies to some of my questions (‘What’s your best memory of ___?’ ‘What’s the worst thing about the place?’ ‘…’)

But anyway, it has very little weight on the decisions, so I guess I won’t worry too much :)

One little unrelated question here- my SAT 1 math is very low (650) because I was on lack of sleep for weeks and so made many silly mistakes. But, considering that I intend to major in the arts, will that be looked over even a little? CR=710 and WR=780 (overall 2140).
I know it’s thoda pointless to ask now, but there are these little nagging questions
Thanks :D

@TheEcnegilletni- interesting video! Just watching it :D

TheEcnegilletni, I came to know about making KONY famous 2012 just today. For the first time in so many years I feel so proud of our generation. We’re taking a stand. I’m under no impression that this will solve the world’s problems, but we MUST start somewhere.

For those who are interested to know more about it - http://www.news.com.au/world/its-all-over-the-webs-but-what-is-a-kony/story-e6frfkyi-1226292956990

@Cobalt: Don’t worry about it, thoda bhi nahi. Admissions will come out in a few weeks. None of us can predict what runs through the minds of admissions counselors. So let us wait and whatever happens will happen. (Btw, 2140 is a very good score :))

@idream17: Yes, it’s very exciting to see what an impact we, the youth, can have!

@theecnigilletni: Interesting video!

@everyone: Was just thinking did any of you CBSE students find the geography we learn in the tenth pathetic??

I mean we have to learn facts like there are 332 mini cement plants in India :/.

P.S.: Really bored doing geography :P

^^You’re in 10th? I remember absolutely HATING the climate wala chapter! Well, facts may seem pointless, but it’s not a bad idea to learn them! It gives people a good impression if you know that there are 332 cement plants in India, yes?
Regardless, I liked Geography the least compared to the rest I guess. History and civics were kickass though :D

@TheEcnigilletni- thanks re I sure hope so And yep, better to not try and predict/assume anything :)

Uva umich or babson for business?

Is anyone applying for Questbridge program here??
