The Indian Thread #20 (a)

*cannot.
Sorry, typing from my cell phone  Could not bring a laptop here.

quick questions?
as for the recruiting part, how many indians actually try for recruiting? also, how many of 'em actually get via the recruiting part? (consider as for the Indians only)

also, the colleges ask for the contact details of the recruit-applicant, but my coach doesnt speak English (like, at all?)! what should i do? and should i still fill-in HIS number (when asked for the contact details of the coach)?

i wish USApplicant would come back from his hibernation. just wonder where he’s at currently? the CBSE-ISC boards are already done with! he was gonna help me up with the recruiting-form-thing! :

@phr34K - U Mass is an excellent school and Amherst is a great college town

@manrosh - Dont know your answer but I would think if she is not taking the spot, better to tell so they can free up the wait list. Or maybe the SIR will expire by May 1 anyway.
Maybe let it sit until you actually complete all formalities with WPI.

What sport do you play rew?? And the colleges you approach will need to see you play to decide. I would suggest you to ask in the Athletic Recruits subsection of this forum.
Hope it helps.

@Texaspg: Actually my primary interest in Bioscience and I want to take the same certificate courses you were talking about in Engineering Biology and computational Biology (as a minor). What H has is Bio med engineering(more of Med. instrumentation related)
@Phr34k and 2016parent: I think both of you are right!

5 prospectives to Berkeley. Was the # always so high, considering traditionally higher number of acceptances or have the recent financial woes led to this increase in # of admits?

^I think the numbers are skewed because of the strong applicants in CC and also because Engineering applicants tend to apply to Berkeley with CMU and Cornell. Actually this year, I don’t see any Cornell acceptances and that is surprising. Also I think some here got rejected at Berkeley and accepted CMU/ UCLA.

^ If you’d like to know for information’s sake, this year, six students got likely letters from Cornell this year. A total of eight students were accepted from RKP. As far as I know, none of them are going there, which is funny :)

That’s true F16Parent.

Thanks for the info…I was starting to think Cornell is getting over-selective  Well Cornell is in upstate NY and not for everyone…

What about Penn? :open_mouth: I don’t see any Penn acceptances this year :S. It seems like there are a lot more going to CMU/Berkeley/Stanford haha

mrinal, i play tennis on a state level standard, and swim on the same level as well.
how exactly will they see me play or swim?
will they be sending some of their representatives from States to India? or how?

P.S parents and the 2016’ers can u please elabore more, after reading this thread, on the loan and paying back the bank -part?

I am going to give you some links, which have some interesting insight in to student loans, people who are struggling with, and some who still think it is worth it. Since I am more in touch with the University my D attends, so these stories are the ones I myself was interested in to begin with. And each to his own, but makes sense to hear from people who have been there, done that and their reasons for those decisions.

Berkeley and CMU have been pretty successful this year. But I do think that Cornell is getting more selective. And this is not sour grapes :-P.

rew, you will need to go to the States or send them a video ( I don’t know about the latter, ask in the respective section). I would say try recruiting for swimming, colleges don’t recruit for TT.

mrinal, i meant lawn tennis, not the TT…
and i guess, i might be sending in a video! :

Sorry, I didn’t see the whole post ;)

anialways, as a parent, would u u have sent your kid for undergrad without any aid even when u know it might put hole in your pocket worth $90k ?
i mean, what if my family is NOT AT ALL financial secured, and still ready to send me to UCLA (for example) or UC-SD for the undergrad, even if its making a hole in their pockets worth more than $150K + ?
comment and suggest? is it foolish or …?

^ I think that just goes on not show much your parents trust your abilities and the return on their investment.

However, this decision is more than just positive talk. You should really think it through.
