Others - I see a lot of indecisions still floating around. Yes, college is hard…but there is a reason they admitted you. I would advise not over-reading the boards and start second guessing. My last piece of advise is go with open mind and it won’t be easy the first year, but it WILL get easier in the following years. Did my undergrad Engineering in India and that wasn’t easy either :)

@fall2016: I have had the chance to visit a few colleges in the past years. A few weeks ago I attended a scholarship event at Duke. It is certainly the most beautiful campus I have ever seen, with great weather too. I enjoyed my 3 days there and got to meet wonderful and extremely interesting people. I have however strong pressure from my family to matriculate at Harvard, and one of their argument is that the event at Duke was a marketing event which might not give an accurate picture of real student life there. So, we eventually agreed that I would decide on my own after Visitas.
I will keep you posted.

hey all.
i had a question regarding the financial aid.
When exactly do we show the universities the proof that we can afford the education for the first year in the uni? like do we send that BEFORE being admitted, sending the bank statements with the application,
OR we send it AFTER we are admitted to the desired college?

err, but i read somewhere that being financially unstable can hamper your chances?
like some institutes check your financial stability before admitting you and looking upon the condition, they may/ may not give you admission.
how exactly does that work?

If you apply for finanical aid, you will have to fill the CSS profile on the collegeboard site. There you fill in your financial details. So, when you apply to colleges, you will have to send them your CSS profile( its just like sending SAT score reports) .
Yes, applying for financial aid at need aware colleges hampers your chances( not at need blind ones, because they donot consider your finaicial status during the admission process, they compile your aid package only after acceptance). :)

^There is no 2016 RD results thread, all the results are scattered around this thread. You can always see the previous pages to see the results.:)

Hey Guys,
If I wanna do research in India, where can I find a perfectly equipped lab and a supervisor? Do you guys know of any programs or anything? How could a high school-er do something like this in a local IIT?

Alea - there are several beautiful campuses in US that you seem to have gotten into (Duke, Princeton, and Stanford). Duke and Stanford have a lot of land which allows them to design their campus well and more spreadout.

Admitted student events are mostly marketing events. However, you have to consider that Duke also has top 10 (20?) medical, law and business schools which means Duke is a pretty competitive school across the board.

In the end Harvard has the name recognition around the world which is what your family wants for you. I tend to agree with them.

dancingjuicedesu: ikr? even i was a lil surprised to see so many indians selected in princeton this year! 18 is a pretty good number, considering the history of P-accepted indians.
anyway, what are ur stats dacing? and where all are you accepted and when have you finally enrolled?

On reading the starting pages of TiT, we Indians sometimes go wayy overboard and go into the realm of intellectual and superficial, the whole IIT and MIT discussion per se :D

@rew2402: regarding your query regarding showing financial statements to the universities: Like Mrinal said, for most colleges if you are not applying for FA, you have to show the Fin. statement after you are admitted. But some colleges ask for them before being admitted, especially if you are NOT applying for FA. I am sure of it for at least Stanford where for EA the Date of submission was Nov 15. Carnegie Melon also asks for it before. There could be other colleges which might be asking for that, but I am not sure.
You have to check for the universities you are interested in!

Just saw the UCB acceptance rate this fall, the acceptance rate for internationals this year was 12.5% , a drop from last year’s international acceptance rate of 25.5% . I think the UCs are slowly coming out of the debt they were in.
