The Indian Thread #20 (a)

Thanks for all the info here. The day went well, but the crowd outside the US consulate was over whelming :p

Mrinal - Congrats. Did you get the visa already? How did the interview go - would be nice if you can narrate the experience.

The interview was good. All that fretting over the visa…it seems silly now. :stuck_out_tongue:
I just went with the Admission letter, proof of payment, Marksheet, SAT/ACT score reports. The interview should not be hard, you just need good english. :)

~ how long did it take? The SAT/ACT score reports - did you print it online (which says unofficial). Is this accepted? Or did you need to order and take the official one?
What were the visa interview questions?

So, changing the topic from the visas to college admissions, what are the 17’ers upto??
How were your 11th marks?? Started with the essays yet??

@ abs: Will PM you the details tomorrow, when I reach home :)

Yes! Finally someone changed the topic :D

My 11th marks were depressingly bad compared to my other years’ marks. T_T

just saw this [U</a>. over-enrolls Class of 2016, none taken from waitlist - The Daily Princetonian](http://www.dailyprincetonian.com/2012/05/14/30977/)
So Princeton is not taking any either. I think someone at india CC was waiting for princeton vs Berkeley.

Thank f2016p for that link… Looks like, so far, almost every Ivy, Stanford, MIT has a higher yield this year and hence none from wait lists … So, where is the drop then?

How about Cornell, Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth? When are they likely to give this information …

Any idea about Berkeley yield this year and reg. the wait lists there?

Tizil - That is indeed impressive that you made it to Brown and Berkeley despite 11th grade marks not being so great… !! Did you have the explain the dip in the essays or something??

Yale has been admitting people off the waitlist.

Harvard will do 25.

Dartmouth did a few already and stopped. However, they have not released the waitlist (they are waiting a bit longer to see if others will drop out in summer melt).

Cornell has been admitting some in specific schools.

Brown - people think there are very few openings but there has not been an announcement. Not much news with Columbia and Penn.

@abscalc - are you going to Columbia or Berkeley?

Texaspg, Brown admitted 10 or so students off the z-list. None of the regular wait list. Confirmed through an email to interviewers.

We’ll get news from Columbia anytime tomorrow (15th of May) since the admissions committee clearly said in the wait list decision that they won’t be informing students before that date.

abscalc, haha no I didn’t explain the dip anywhere because frankly, I was the one to blame for not having anticipating the difficulty of the course load. Plus, it was a relatively big drop, not an absolute drop, so I think they might have over-looked it. ~7% drop.

Tizil: PM how to approach those short questions to me as well? When your exams get over?
Especially those - how did the book changed your mindset kinda ques?! Thanks.

Damn. The process is so daunting.
I am terrified and nervous already. The essays are the only thing that will be helping me much :/

Question: how much the course-load affect the college decisions? To what extend is the school-course-load (subjects one has taken) influences the college app?

Tizil, were your marks in 10th and 11th were like this??
10th: 10 CGPA
11th: 88%
Don’t be so modest… :D

Faaaaaaaaaaar from it!

9.4 and 82% :p

^^Not really Tizil :p

PS. I like your number of posts ;)

Me too Post Number 1616…

Mrinal have you sorted the missed pieces of your visa.

“The Polytechnic Institute of NYU is pleased to be welcoming Sam Pitroda, largely known as the ‘father of telecommunications of India’ as this year’s honorary degree recipient and Commencement keynote speaker because of his lifelong accomplishments and achievements,” NYU-Poly President Jerry Hultin said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Polytechnic Institute of New York University, also known as NYU-Poly, lauded “wireless pioneer” Pitroda’s achievements in addressing the infrastructure and technology challenges in India, particularly his efforts in making telecom accessible to the country’s 1.2 billion people.

Pitroda, who currently serves as Advisor to the Prime Minister on Public Information and Infrastructure and Innovations and is the Chairman of the National Innovation Council, will address about 1000 undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty members at the commencement ceremony to be held at NYU-Poly’s campus here on May 18."

Hey all.
Can you just reply to my question? #1612 post? About courae load?

@rew - You should be taking the most rigor classes your school offers.
I thought this is more relevant to people who have choices. For example, if your school offers IB or AP curriculum, the adComs want to see that you have challenged yourself by taking those classes.

Talking of college commencement season, here are some of my old and new ones I liked …
