Karan, exactly! When reservation was created, it was apt because ‘caste’ more or less accurately depicted a person’s financial standing. It is still somewhat true. But not so much seeing there are ‘second-generation’ reservation candidates. My proposed solutions would be:

Restructure reservation so that it is dependent of finances and not caste.

Define a limit as to how many generations can benefit from reservation. For a very real example, the sons of an high ranking IPS officer studying at the same school as me plan to use their SC ‘status’ to get through JEE and perhaps even UPSC. But no one mentions this because … “you don’t talk like that in public.” It is sad.

It sounds good!! Seems like you get a variety every morning!
but the theory on how different your day will be with the breakfast you eat applies for me as well. only, instead of the breakfast, it is the song i listen to every morning… rock, it goes great, death metalish; it goes weird. (Most of the days are weird though)
sounds vague, but it does happen!

OMG I have found someone who agrees with me. Yeah, people here have a stigma of talking about caste but they never hesitate to use it for their own benefit. It really is very sad.

@d&d : if you read this, i know its difficult in this plethora of posts, then you should know that the zonda is helluva amazing and the best supercar ever. just look at the zonda r. its completely mad and both road and track illegal. also the new huayara looks so amazing.
still my current favourite is the new lambo, the aventador. it has killer looks, is super fast and is so effing amazing.

This thread is leaning more towards entertainment than information; but I’m lovin it.
Doesn’t hurt to have a little entertainment amidst the strenuous endeavor of applying to colleges. So, Keep the fun alive!!

@tennischicaxo- Hey, I’m from South India too and I know kannada. @darkanddown- I’m a girl. Lo, now there are four in the list.

Just to keep the conversation in track,
How good is the Princeton review for SAT II- Literature?

The reservation system was initiated to make sure that all indians are on the same stand. True, the benefits were extended to the Sc/ST/OBC’s, but clearly today, except in the most remote places, cast differences are wiped off. Thousands of SC/ST/OBC’s are living a lucrative life. This makes it imperative to give a thought to the unnecessary implementation of the reservation system.

If you ask me, I’d say, STOP judging people on the grounds of their classes. You wanted equality, you can get it if you stop clinging so hard to racism.

Look, I don’t even know you and I have a burning hatred for you. I hope you realize that people (like you) who need to come to online forums in order to make themselves feel like they’re the better person are more pathetic than anything else. You don’t know me. I didn’t have the heart to mention that my SAT score is 100 points higher than yours and I still have a year and a half to prep myself for the 2400. I’m getting letters from colleges all around the United States, begging me to join one thing after another. I’ve won science fairs internationally and my essay about Diversity has been ranked one of the best in the nation. I’m a sophomore and I’m taking AP Calculus BC and I’m killing the class as if it was a mere fly in my face. So I suggest you think before you speak. ESPECIALLY when you don’t know who you’re talking to.

Sorry to anyone who may feel as if I have ruined the mood. I had to say this. Darkanddown is REALLY testing my last nerve.

I am back after an absolute waste of time on cracked. @d&d : the gtr is a technological marvel and the only supercar i can realistically think of buying. So i hate it when automags keep saying that it hasn’t got soul. who are you to judge the soul of a car. they just repeat the same crap that is said about every jap car. according to them only ferraris and maseratis have soul and all that crap. that is racism and that is discrimination. sorry for the long rant.

Dark and Down … you are suspiciously sounding like when some Americans say that they hate Indians because they are stealing jobs. If there is only one thing that I have learned from my dad then it is that till there is even 1 opportunity (seat in this case), nothing stops you from getting to it. And just for the sake of debate, I ask what it is to be called educated? Everyone requires an equal chance. To make more sense, let me state the best possible analogy:

Consider Columbia College (alliteration ftw :P). Now it would be understandable if all of us ganged up against the Barnard students because we feel wronged that they get Columbia degrees even when they getting into Barnard is comparatively easier. However, I feel that our current situation is more of Native Americans getting into CC because they are URMs.

I agree that this analogy isn’t entirely accurate, considering that SC/ST/OBC aren’t underrepresented minorities. They are majorities. But tell me why a kid whose family cannot pay for DPS, Sanskriti, Vasant Valley, etc shouldn’t be given an equal chance - considering their education - at the JEE or for that matter, any exam?

AleaJactaEst, of course you can. And I agree, we did go on an overwhelming hundred post spree back there. Tell me if you are in Belgium :)

On a side note, doesn’t anybody find it funny how Delhi Public School is:
Has the word “Delhi” but has branches all over the world?
Has the word “Public” but is in fact a private school?
Funt Fact: The DPS branch in Dubai is aptly called “Delhi Private School”
I realized this is surprisingly late ;)

@tennischicaxo: so you are another super duper achiever, now i wonder the point of even applying to the colleges in usa. i mean if i am competing with people like you i have got no chance. with a measly sat score,no ecs, most likely a boring essay i stand alone
