The Indian Thread #20

btw, i apologize for the grammar…

being in butler 24/7 makes it easier to access caffeine all day long… :)

PD - so you went straight to Columbia when you came to US?

Yeah well Stanford’s weather is still not as good as it is in SoCal. That was to induce more envy. But there’s nothing too envious about life here or rather lack of it >.<

^^are u referring to enrolling or moving in?

moved in a bit late because of the hurricane… but official move-in had already been delayed so i didn’t get to miss too much of first week

as for enrolling… i was taken off the wait-list in late may… i wasn’t even considering it until then… plus, they was extremely nice and helpful about everything, way more-so than stanford, which is just about the cheapest admissions office on the planet

haha, true that… i’ve heard about caltech’s social problems haha…

columbia’s amazing though :p… i absolutely LOVE the environment here, and really encourage you all to really consider should you get in… it allowed me for the first time to come out and feel comfortable about being a bisexual… something i could NEVER do even around my closest friends from high school, but could here because it’s such an accepting and welcoming environment… plus, because of NYC, it’s also in the best college town in the world! :D

Social problems maybe not so much. Just too much work it seems almost nonsensical. But yeah the US tends to be open minded about these things especially Cali! If you think its liberal there, you should take a look here  Though NYC is probably a better city than LA. And is there some cold wave right now in the US? SoCal seems inordinately chilly :S

@Mysticgohan : How many international students receive financial aid from Caltech every year. On Caltech’s website, it is mentioned that the aid is limited. How limited is it?
@PrincetonDreams : How good is the financial aid in Columbia? Also how good is the science curriculum there? Especially physics.
Please help

I <3 NY. That’s probably the most common shirt in all of America.

I am surprised that they let you change in June :open_mouth: AND you got off their waitlist? Amazing!

Is the food as bad as they say it is, PD? Especially in John Jay’s? And is the lack of quality restaurants true? Are your required to take the swimming test?

Ahh. All these things make me go

^^I love how you keep using that emoticon
Btw, does not taking a Math sub SAT affect anything in my applications? Esp if i have a strong arts inclination/background and dont plan to take math courses later?

It does … and it doesn’t. Here are the two sides of the coin:

It does: Showing that you are strong in math even though you are inclined towards the arts shows your multifaceted academic background.

It doesn’t: Because most colleges/programs you will be applying to will not be engineering/technical programs, so you can safely assume that the Math Subject test will not be a requirement.

It’s up to you!

EDIT: Oh … and out of context …

A quick link for those who haven’t begun with their essays:
https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1eWloFMCgyLhFKTdIVU0dv1g6aTHHUEh1tGKDCoij2TE&pli=1</a>

unless you haven’t seen this already :p

Hmm…Thanks  Does it balance out if i have good math grades in CBSE high school?
Hahaha! Okay, you made me laugh, and i really needed that  :)

@veethi- thanks for that  I havent started yet (will this weekend) but im trying to collect helpful sites :)

No problemo!

Neither have I !! I am planning to start today… Hopefully procrastination doesn’t come in my way.

Dont worry! One month solid is more than enough, and we definitely have that much time :)

True! 10char

Wow, going slow today isnt it?

Tell me about it. I was getting depressed (hyperbole) not seeing the India button glow bright yellow :(

How’s the studying going?

So many essays to do and my dad is deliberately taking me on vacation early this month. God help me

EDIT: The last line just made me laugh, considering what we’ve been discussing the past two days flashed in my mind. :D

All the best everybody!! Do well! ( which I’m sure you will!)

I’ll be taking mine in December…

Vacations!! Nice! where are you going :o haha

Edit: The edit was an epic failure haha
