The Indian Thread #21

@rew, why don’t you write both your essays, ther versions you want and see how they turn out?
That way you’ll have two essays two chose from as your main, and you can always modify the one you don’t use for a supplement.
Like the Yale supplement :)

So amazing to be here! So can we share what preparations we have already done? And maybe your locations in India?

So Tizil, you choosing Columbia over Cal? No more Desi Family? ;-P

Of course we can. :slight_smile:
I’ve taken my SAT already which didn’t turn out to be too good. I’m taking SAT subject tests on 2nd and then ACT on the 9th. Then I plan to start working on essays and other parts of my app. What about the rest of you?

@ Mrinal, I though you were EDing to Cornell?

Hey! Well my SAT’s got delayed for some reason so now its Oct and Nov for me. But I am utilizing this time by starting my essays off ad compiling all the curriculum information and yada yada yada. I am a home scholar, in a small idiotic town in Punjab, just moved from Africa.

^ You know thats an interesting situation to be in. I’m pretty sure admission officers don’t see a lot of home schooling applicants from India, which makes you unique. And we all know being unique is never a bad thing.

So you’ve lived in Africa all your life until recently?

I would ve enjoyed being home schooled :smiley:

done with Sat 1 but probably retaking in October, and got subjects on 2nd :)

@idream how different is the prep for ACT compared to sat 1?

idream17, I have lived in the Pearl of Africa for 7 precious life-changing years of my life. Yes, yes. And the good thing is that I actually have a transcript too, my mum has been grading me since I started and compiled the stuff. What board are you going to sit exams with? And what was your SAT score, if you wouldn’t mind sharing.

Guess no one answered my question ;). Should I retake a 750 Chem??
idream: I figured that Stanford would be a better bet with the new ACT score. But most of all, Stanford is my dream school.

@xNorth22 yes it is enjoyable, I have the liberty to study in the comfort of my bed and warmth of a blanket only that India is too hot :stuck_out_tongue:
@Mrinal2207 I do not think 750 is bad at all! In fact its just the same thing when compared to 800 in a second sitting!

Ppaayas, thats great! So are you all Indian or half African half Indian or something? My SAT score was horrible - 1960. I dunno what went wrong on test day, I had been consistently scoring 2000-above in the practice tests. What was yours?
And I’m in CBSE, so yeah.

Mrinal, I think a 750 in chem is a great score. If you are completely satisfied with it then there’s no need to retake it. Though if you think you can raise it to 790-800 range and don’t mind spending precious time and money on it, you can consider retaking it.

Pratyush, I’m most probably still sticking to Cal.

@ppaayas lucky lucky.
Which board are you going to be sitting?

Mrinal, ditto what idream said. If you think you have a shot, go for it.
Though it’s not absolutely necessary.

@idream17 No, I am totally Indian by race but pretty African at heart. I am taking it in Oct, got delayed, but I am going to try and pull a 2350+ there is no other way.
@xNorth22 CIE it is.

Another 17’er here. I will be taking the SATs in July, and although I stand a very distant chance at getting in, I’m still only applying at the top Uni’s of my choice. My ECs are just average though, and I am not attaching myself to the ‘dream’ too much thus. I believe I will thrive in India as well but, there’s nothing wrong in applying just for the sake of it.

EminemFan. There are no SAT’s whatsoever in summer.

Okay, I haven’t been paying attention I guess. Will take it up in October.

i got a 700/800 in math IC and 660/800 in physics…are they bad scores??? and wat r my chances of getting into a gud university?? im in my senior year… should i give sat 2 again?? or shud i give sat 1 nd go to a midiocre university??

and what are da differences b/w early decision ,early action , regular deadlines??

Ppaayas, oh alright. Won’t you be taking any subject tests? what colleges are you shooting for?
