What univs are you looking at?

someone reply…plz… :)

nybody a thinking abt tufts ,cornell or carnegie mellon???

iamdarockstar, it depends on which universities/colleges you’re applying to. Within itself, 700/800 is a respectable score, seeing that the curve for the test is very harsh. I’m not in a position to directly comment on your Physics score since I myself didn’t take the test. Though I’ve seen better and people claim it to be an easy test.

Again, which universities are you applying to? Re-taking the Subject Tests depends on your finances, time, universities and the rest of your application.

Also, most if not all universities/colleges require the SAT 1, so you should take it.

Quite logically, Early Action (EA) and Early Decision (ED) are application options under which you apply at an earlier date and get to know your decision earlier. These two options have higher acceptance rates mostly because of self-selectivity and also because most colleges fill unto 40%-50% of their class during this early round. Regular Decision (RD) is the regular option which you usually apply by January 1. However, the acceptance rate during this cycle is deplorably low.

EA is not-binding. ED is binding. Which means that if you apply ED to a school and are accepted, you are bound by law to attend that university. However, you can usually cite financial reasons to back out.

Edit: It looks like you’re under the impression that the SAT Reasoning Test is only required for mediocre universities. That is not the case. It is required for all universities.

Edit2: Looks like you’re thinking about Tufts, Cornell and CMU. What is the rest of your application like? Test Scores, Letters of Recommendations, Academics (9th through 12th), Extra-curriculars, etc?

@idream17 I will in November, I won’t be applying early anywhere. i am shooting for HYPS, Brown, Cornell, Colgate, Brandeis and USC. How about you? Are you applying for FA?

okay …@tizil7:tanx…mate…

i dint giv sat 1 until nw…i hav only oct,nov…dates left…i mean if i wanna apply for an early action ting…also i have also seen few universities like MIT which require either …toefl or sat 1??wats dat all about?? also …i wanna giv…sat 2 again…so wen do u tink is da rite time???nd are there ny universites which wud accept my current score??

@iamdarockstar If you score more than 600 on the reading(I am not so sure, it might be writing) component, then no TOEFL required.

I will be shortlisting about eight or so from my Collegeboard college list in a few days to apply to. As for now, only MIT and UChicago are definitely there.

[Tests To Take | MIT Admissions](International applicants | MIT Admissions)

Whenever you feel like. Before January.

ok…@ppaayas:tanx…can u name some univs wer my sat subject scores could b accepted??

@tizil7:talking about MIT…wat r my chances…if i get a gud score in sat 1 nd 2…nd apply for regular admission…??

The Physics curve is very easy. I had 3 wrong and still a 800. The Chemistry curve I think was a bit harsh, but I didn’t even study for it, so I don’t really know
You don’t need to give the TOEFL if you have studied in an English medium school for more than 4 years.

Everyone here is aiming for HYPS , its scary ;)

@iamdarockstar: MIT only accepted 3 Indians for the class of 2016. I think that is pretty self explainatory. But, if you want to have a look at the profiles of the typical acceptees, see the MIT decision thread.

@mrinal2207:ayu done wid all da tests???

@Ppaayas, I haven’t made a final list yet. Waiting for my ACT score to determine reaches/matches/safeties. I won’t be applying for financial aid at need aware colleges. At the need blind ones though, I will. What about you? what would be your intended major?

I will be applying for FA at need blind ones, and the need aware ones usually have scholarships that you are automatically considered for. I am not so sure, I am struggling to choose between Biology or Journalism.

iamdarockstar, I would seriously suggest you to use Google for most of your questions here. As for your chances, it would be preposterous for me to gauge.

hey all.
not to be a grammar nazi or anything, but its actually taking a test or exam and not ‘giving’ one. Have been corrected by many people myself, so. :P

anyway, its nice to see so many '17ers finally group here :)

@iamdarockstar: i’ll be trying for Cornell.
CMU is great too, but they dont give enough financial aid to internationals.
also, MIT is a high reach school. its extremely difficult to get in. i’ve heard (correct me guys, if i am wrong) that MIT, Caltech go for kids who are more into international olympiads and have won significant ranks in the same.

also, mrinal is already with his standardized tests. (he scored an amazing 35 in his ACTs). though i should mention it.

damn it is.

@mrinal, am waiting for the PM that never arrived! :|

And I will make it to HYPS. Yes, I have heard about the Olympiad thing too. I am sitting for the entrance test of one of those next January, and I am pretty sure I will get in but then it won’t contribute to my application, at all!

@Tizil: ** i need help regarding my chances against a feeder school’s student. **
like i am competing against a feeder school student for Yale (hypothetically). would the college adcoms prefer the kid from feeder school to me even if i have almost the same standard of stuff as the other kid?
