Sorry, I missed the question in the rush of posts on this alarmingly fast growing thread :p

IMO, the ACT prep is essentially easier than the SAT since there seem to be a lot less âstrategiesâ for solving questions. They are more straight-forward and test on concepts in English, Math, Reading and Science that we have done in school. The English is considerably easier since the focus is on sentence structure/grammar rather than vocabulary (I hate to learn up words which some SAT prep books urge you to do). Itâs a race-against-the-clock test though. Even more so then the SAT, which isnât exactly a take-all-your-time test either. So yeah, you have to be pretty fast. ACT also has the Science section which is mostly just interpreting graphs and tables. I found the ACT math almost the same as the SAT math save for the few trig questions. The essay is a little different than the SAT essay. The topic(assignment?) is more direct and is mainly restricted to student related topics. Thatâs all I can think of right now. :)

Me! Iâm a tech+humanities person. Hence, architecture ;)

@rew: About the Feeder school thing. First of all, you should know that you will be compared to your peers, like the applicants from India. Yale accepted 19 Indians this year( I think ), and 5 from Modern School. That is, only 14 from the rest of India or 74% for that matter. You certainly have a chance to be the 74%.
Now, coming to the favoribility factor, colleges like if you are from a feeder school, but only because they know about the grading scheme in that particular school. If you arenât from one, you should send a detailed Secondary school report, with the average GPA, highest GPA, average SAT score etc. That should do it.
And, if you have the same credentials as the student from a feeder school, your essays will set you apart.
All in all, you donât have an advantage but not a disadvantage either. :)

My intended major is Physics. Or Mathematics. Or Mathematical Physics. Or Physical Mathematics (whatever that may be). Whatever allows me to be connected with both. I also run a blog (which is in a slightly dismal state, and there were cobwebs there for about a year, but Iâm revamping it this summer :p) named âInfinite Loopâ where I share my thoughts about Maths and Physics and anything that comes up in the mind. :)

Thanks idream
Was thinking I might give the act since its before the next sat. Wasnât sure of the prep needed so thanks for enlightening me :)

Aaand yes imma be physics+photography :-)

ooh photography! Do you free lance?

@Mrinal Its Linguistics.
@rew2402 Lol

@All: Are we compared to people from our region as well?
Btw, does working for an international magazine as a blogger help much? I was recruited today but the assignment starts in 2 months.

@ppayas.
We, as intenationals, are compared to the whole pool of international applicants, including applicants from our region, city and country.

hey guys. i have a problem
like i really want to take ACT, but they are one-week tests and i dont live in a ACT-test-center-city. also, the nearest city with the center is New Delhi, which is still like 10-12 hours away via rail and travelling every week is no good idea.
should i concentrate on my SAT then?
i really want to take the ACTs. is there any other possible way i can do that? (ACTs seem far more easier than the SATs as per the English, math and science i considered)

rew: What do you mean by 1 week test?? It is same as the SAT.

@idream17
Yup
Got so many photography ecâs the colleges are gonna wonder why im even applying for a physics major :P

Its like just for the heck of studying something. :)

I plan to major in Mechanical Engineering. I might Minor in Maths too. :)

1 week as in, it runs for one whole week or something. right?
as in, SAT is just 3hr test on a single day.
act takes 2-3 days, right?

@north. u have some better place to be at. STOP being sucha geek! go have fun! -_-

rew: :eek: What!!?? No way, ACT is also a 3 hour test. :p
